About the role

We are looking for an experienced Data Engineer to join our Digital Defence Services team following continuous growth and success. Within Digital Defence Services, we are a critical partner to the UK Ministry of Defence in their adoption of secure digital solutions that enable multi-domain integration and data exploitation, which provides the advantage to those who serve and protect us.  

 

Positioned within a thriving Digital Defence Services Business Unit and part of a wider vibrant Security Consulting Community from across other Sectors, you will be supported in the role and have opportunity learn and develop, with clear pathways defined for your career progression in the organisation.

 

As a Data Migration Engineer you will be experienced in:

  • Analysing requirements and design and understands how data is used, manipulated and processed
  • Implementing, testing and configuring code based on traditional RDBMS and/or Big Data approaches to deliver data driven solutions
  • Coding in one or more relevant programming languages, e.g. SQL, Python, Scala etc… 
  • Having an understanding of one or more relevant data storage solutions, e.g. Oracle, SQL Server, PostgreSQL, MySQL, Elastic, Hadoop, MongoDB etc
  • Using appropriate software development tools, e.g. source control
  • Following industry standard disciplines and best practices

 
About you
You will have experience in many of the following:

  • Familiarity with the packages and frameworks used by BAE Systems, namely ElasticSearch, NiFi, Python, MS SQL Server; (Essential)
  • Close collaboration and communication with our stakeholders through the lifecycle of a project to analyse existing data and business processes and develop and deliver successful data migration projects;
  • Performing in-depth technical analysis to understand data complexities, client requirements, and desired outcomes;
  • Identifying, addressing, and communicating potential data-related issues to all stakeholders to ensure project success;
  • Modelling data and executing data manipulation, mapping from source to target systems using custom ETL process and tools;
  • Providing technical guidance and support to business stakeholders and teams on data migration best practices and ensure the integrity and quality of data;
  • Creating and maintaining detailed documentation of data migration processes and procedures;
  • Troubleshooting and resolving data migration issues efficiently. 
     

Due to the nature of the business and requirements in this role, you must:

 

  • Hold an MoD/Partner DV 
  • Be a UK National
  • Be able to work on-site at one of the customer sites in London (minimum of 3 days per week) with occasional travel to other customer sites;
  • Be willing to work overseas when required.
