We develop groundbreaking technology that boosts the accuracy, reliability and security of GNSS receivers. Chipset manufacturers partner with us to enhance the capability of their devices, helping to improve the lives of billions of people who rely on location technologies in their smartphones, watches and cars.

The Opportunity:

We are looking for an Engineer who is keen to join a team of expert engineers, working together collaboratively to create groundbreaking technologies that transform the capability of all GNSS receivers.

To develop our product we need to capture and process a large amount of data. The collection process varies from lab-based scenarios using simulation or replay of real-world scenarios using a complex set of hardware installed on a vehicle or on a person. The resulting data needs to be archived in a repository and carefully analysed before being passed on to core developers.

This role has two primary aspects:

  • Developing and maintaining lab-based test harnesses and ensuring the data is collected efficiently and reliably
  • Planning and running real-world data collection exercises locally in Cambridge, further afield in the UK or internationally

There is considerable scope to build expertise in GNSS, Signal Processing and FocalPoint technology in the analysis of the results and, with experience, to help steer algorithm and software development.

The successful candidate must be local to Cambridge and be available to work in our Cambridge office 5-days per week and will ideally possess a UK driving licence. The role is primarily office-based but may require travel, testing our devices around the UK and occasionally globally.

Applications close: Friday 13th June 2025

  • Experience running tests and data capture
  • Familiarity with hardware testing and creating experimental hardware setups
  • UK driving licence and full passport with willingness to travel as required

Desirable:

  • Experience working with large data sets
  • Experience programming and working with open source hardware

Your Skills

Essential:

  • Knowledge of standard hardware test equipment, especially radio, RF, or GNSS
  • Understanding of file transfer and networking protocols
  • Ability to create and maintain supporting test scripts and software
  • Familiarity with Windows, Linux, or MacOS, and standard office software tools
  • Ability to produce and work with detailed technical specifications
  • Flexible, pragmatic, determined approach to problem solving
  • Proactive approach to learning about the technical domain

Desirable:

  • Knowledge of GNSS, Inertial Navigation, RF, Software Defined Radio

Veterans in Machine Learning: A Military‑to‑Civilian Pathway into AI Careers

Introduction Artificial intelligence is no longer relegated to sci‑fi films—it underpins battlefield decision‑support, fraud detection, and even supermarket logistics. The UK Government’s 2025 AI Sector Deal forecasts an additional £200 billion in GDP by 2030, with machine‑learning (ML) engineers cited as the nation’s second most in‑demand tech role (Tech Nation 2024). The Ministry of Defence’s Defence AI Strategy echoes that urgency, earmarking £1.6 billion for FY 2025–28 to embed ML into planning, logistics, and autonomous systems. If you have ever tuned a radar filter, plotted artillery trajectories, or sifted sensor data for actionable intel, you have already worked with statistical modelling—the backbone of machine learning. This guide shows UK veterans how to reframe military experience for ML roles, leverage MoD transition funding, and land high‑impact positions building the models shaping tomorrow’s defence and commercial landscapes.
