Overall Job Purpose

Reporting to the Data Manager, the Data Engineer will work within the Data Team supporting and enhancing our data offering to users. The successful candidate will be responsible for data ingestion, transformation, cleansing, quality assurance and governance, as well as collaborating with other data professionals and stakeholders to deliver data-driven solutions.  

Requirements

Key Responsibilities:

  • Implement data quality, security and governance policies and procedures to ensure data integrity and compliance. 
  • Manage data pipeline projects, including version control, code review, testing, and deployment. 
  • Design and maintain our Data LakeHouse and other repositories. 
  • Implement data ingestion strategies from various sources such as files, databases, APIs and streaming platforms. 
  • Perform data transformation and cleansing using SQL, Python or R.  
  • Helping to ensure good quality of data - accuracy, completeness and conformity that is properly organised using data validation, testing, and monitoring techniques. 
  • Data modelling to create diagrams of data structures and associated business rules/procedures. 
  • Data warehousing and data quality concepts and best practices 
  • Optimise data pipeline performance, scalability, and security. 
  • Document data pipeline design, architecture, metadata, and map data flows 
  • Identifying and fixing data issues and applying preventative measures. 
  • Data visualisations - production of reports and reporting dashboards and leveraging analytical tools. 
  • Development of Data architecture to document data assets and map data flows. 
  • Exploring the "art of possible" with the Club’s data and other relevant sources, to deliver intelligence and management information. 
  • Help to develop a Data culture and encourage the use of Data. 
  • Help to deliver and evolve the Clubs Data Strategy and resultant Data related initiatives. 
  • Attend courses and seminars when required. 

Person Specification:

  • Personable, inquisitive, and enthusiastic with great communication skills (written and verbal). Flexible, strong work ethic, willing to go the extra mile to get the job done.

Essential skills

  • Proven and demonstrable experience working as a Data Engineer. 
  • Proven experience in Data Engineering. 
  • Proficient in SQL and familiar with Python or R. 
  • Proficient in Power BI. 
  • Experience using, designing, and maintaining data lakehouses. 
  • Experience with Azure data tools and frameworks. 
  • Knowledge of data modelling, data warehousing and data quality concept and best practices. 
  • Experience in using Azure DevOps or data pipeline project management. 
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to make sound decisions under pressure. 

Desirable Skills

  • ITIL
  • Experience in UK Insurance or Finance sector.
