We value seeing each other in person from time to time. It helps us do great work. Whilst we are a remote-first team, we ask our colleagues to occasionally attend one of our office hubs in London or Dundee, so they can spend valuable time together working collaboratively.

About the Role:

Working within the Data Science & Insights team at DC Thomson, you will oversee the design, creation, and analysis of core datasets to aid brands such as The Beano, Stylist, Puzzler and The Courier make smarter decisions. You will be responsible for maintaining the accuracy of the reporting framework and empowering stakeholders across the company via data. This is a hands-on role that will play a crucial part in extracting value from data and thus, driving the growth of DC Thomson.

Here’s what the role involves:

  • Working alongside multiple functions:You’ll work with product, marketing, and editorial within our community structure to ensure data is at the heart of all our strategic decisions.
  • Evangelising self-service data analysis:Aid stakeholders in how to use data and help them understand why it’s so critical in ensuring cutting-edge tech companies remain customer centric.
  • Designing and building:Create magic through automated dashboards and reporting, thus, allowing stakeholders to seamlessly integrate data into their day-to-day work.
  • Enriching and creating data models:Ensure we are always using our data in the best way possible to maximise our insight.
  • Collaborating with the rest of the team:Designing new ways of extracting insight from our user behavioural data.
  • Maintaining our data governance: Ensuring stakeholders always have access to accurate up to date data.

We have a modern data stack already in place centred around a Snowflake data warehouse, dbt as the data transformation tool and our BI tool, Looker. We don’t expect you to be fluent with all these technologies, but we do want you to have experience with the following:

  • SQL-based data modelling (including version control)
  • Cloud-based data warehouses
  • Analysis combining data from multiple sources
  • Presenting analysis in an effective manner to non-technical audiences

What to expect next:

Our interview process is fast and goes like this:

  • An introductory meeting with a member of our People Team (20-30 mins)
  • A short take-home test
  • A call with our Team Leads (45 mins)
  • A call with a member of the team and two key stakeholders (45 mins)
