An opportunity has arisen for a passionate & experiencedData Analystto join the Balance Sheet Data Science (BSDS) team at YBS as part of the wider Treasury division. BSDS is YBS’s first Data Science team and is responsible for modelling customer behaviour to inform commercial decision-making and balance sheet risk management. This is an exciting chance to get involved at the start of our Data Science journey and play an integral part in driving the growth of the business. The team is on an ambitious journey to transform the way we gain insight for the business and explore new ways of working and modelling techniques, including the adoption of machine learning.


This role offers a unique opportunity to learn about data science and use it as a stepping stone to transition from a Data Analyst to a Data Scientist. You will work alongside talented data science professionals, enhancing your coding skills and learning from peers as you collaborate on projects that are critical to the success of the business. Our team encourages an environment of learning and growth, where you will have the support and resources to develop your skills and advance your career.


This is a hybrid role with remote working plus one day per week (Tuesday) in our central Leeds offices.


About the role


  • Model Monitoring: utilise visualisation tools to monitor and evaluate the performance of various models, ensuring accuracy and reliability

  • Assumptions Ownership: leverage model outputs and subject matter expert knowledge to inform assumptions for savings behaviours

  • Stakeholder Engagement: collaborate with a range of teams and departments, ensuring effective communication

  • Business Insight: develop awareness and understanding of savings behaviours through ad-hoc requests and regular reporting, with insights tailored to a range of audiences

  • Process Improvement: regularly seek opportunities for process improvement and innovation within the team


About you


  • Experience in practical data analysis and reporting

  • Knowledge of statistical software packages such as Python or R

  • Delivery focused, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving and communication skills

  • The ability to translate complex and technical concepts for a diverse audience

  • Experience in developing and maintaining statistical models

  • Desirable skills include knowledge of the Financial Services industry (ideally Savings),familiarity with database querying languages such as SQL and an understanding of data visualization tools such as Tableau or Power BI
