AWS Data Engineer (Must hold current SC)


Location: Ad-hoc travel to London for the first 3 months then fully remote

Sector: Central Government Project

Type: Salary based 12 month FTC

We are seeking a skilled AWS Data Engineer to join our data engineering team and help build scalable, secure, and efficient data pipelines. The ideal candidate will have strong experience with AWS services, Python, SQL, GitLab, and API integrations. A basic understanding of Power BI is desirable to assist in developing proof-of-concept dashboards that demonstrate end-to-end data flows.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, build, and maintain data ingestion and transformation pipelines using AWS services (e.g., S3, Glue, Lambda, Athena, Redshift, Step Functions).
  • Develop Python scripts and ETL processes for data processing and automation.
  • Integrate data from various APIs and third-party sources into cloud-based data systems.
  • Write and optimise SQL queries for data extraction, transformation, and validation.
  • Use GitLab for version control, CI/CD, and collaborative development.
  • Collaborate with data analysts and BI developers to enable data visualisation and reporting in Power BI.
  • Contribute to the team’s efforts to demonstrate end-to-end data pipeline capabilities, including source ingestion, transformation, storage, and visualisation.
  • Implement best practices for data quality, scalability, and security.


Essential Skills and Experience:

  • Strong hands-on experience with AWS data services (e.g., S3, Glue, Lambda, Athena, Redshift, DynamoDB).
  • Proficiency in Python for data processing, API integration, and automation.
  • Strong SQL skills for data extraction and transformation.
  • Experience working with REST APIs and JSON data structures.
  • Practical experience with GitLab (version control, branching, and CI/CD pipelines).
  • Solid understanding of data pipeline design and ETL best practices.


Desirable Skills:

  • Basic working knowledge of Power BI or similar BI tools (Tableau, QuickSight).
  • Familiarity with data modelling and data warehouse design.
  • Experience with infrastructure as code (e.g., Terraform or CloudFormation).
  • Understanding of DevOps and Agile methodologies.
