Automation Data Integration Engineer

TheGlobal Supply Chain (GSC) Operational Technology (OT) Automation Data Integration Engineeris part of the GSC Engineering OT Resilience, Connectivity & Data Delivery Leadership Team.

This person will lead activity for integration of data originating from engineering automation systems into a variety of data infrastructure solutions to providing data needed for GSC to deliver our digital ambition.

The engineer role will be accountable for integration of automation data based on existing standards and processes ensuring operational activities are delivered and lifecycle managed to meet & exceed business requirements.

The engineer role will be required to report performance to senior leaders and engage stakeholders across Engineering, Tech and other site and central functions in support of digital initiatives and programmes including, but not limited to, Smart Manufacturing and Manufacturing Equipment Connectivity.

As part of this, they will be expected to understand the broader business context of OT data delivery and evolve methods, processes and procedures in line with strategic intent.

In this role you will:

  • Development, implementation and support of automation system data integration into data infrastructure tools in OT including:
    • DCS and SCADA systems.
    • OPC toolsets.
    • OEM packaged equipment.
  • Execution, consultancy and maintenance of the data integration standards to define digital data models in collaboration with site and other central functions.
  • Interface with service group to develop, maintain and manage application and technology portfolios and roadmaps, including the identification of gaps and mitigation approaches.
  • Provide subject matter expertise during the selection, scoping, approval and execution stages of OT data infrastructure systems.
  • Coach and advise delivery teams to ensure solutions reflect agreed standards and provide increased deployment and operational efficiencies in environment of increasing capital constraint.
  • Engage with project teams to promote project decision making that ensures effective delivery of compliant solutions, escalating issues as appropriate.

Qualifications & Skills:

We are looking for professionals with these required skills to achieve our goals:

  • Degree Qualification (BSc/BEng/MSc or equivalent)
  • Considerable experience in automation systems including Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC), Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) Systems and Distributed Control Systems (DCS).
  • In depth expert knowledge of diverse range of manufacturing OT / automation systems and specifically COPA-DATA zenon. PTC Kepserver and AVEVA Pi.
  • Considerable experience working within Automation or Operations at Manufacturing sites in a regulated industry (exposed to GxP & EHS requirements) in a Global context.
  • Significant experience in leading & managing delivery activities in the automation space.
  • Broad knowledge and practical experience of computer and application validation (preferably using GAMP methodology), cGMPs, and 21 CFR Part 11 in an FDA regulated environment.

Preferred Qualifications & Skills:

If you have the following characteristics, it would be a plus:

  • Chartered Engineer Status (CEng) or equivalent and specialised in either areas Automation / Mechanical / Electrical, or equivalent IT advanced level qualification.
  • Experience with Lean Sigma or similar process improvement methodologies.
  • Experience & understanding of GSK OT Security Standards.
