JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY
The Mechanical and Materials Engineering Department at Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) seeks applicants for a tenure-track faculty position in the area of Applied Artificial Intelligence (AI) and ICME (Integrated Computational Materials Engineering) available at the assistant professor level.
The successful candidate will possess a strong background in ICME and demonstrate proficiency in applying AI techniques to materials design. Expertise in computational modeling, machine learning, and data analytics is essential. The candidate should have experience in leveraging AI-driven approaches within ICME frameworks to accelerate the discovery and development of new materials. A proven ability to integrate multidisciplinary methodologies to solve complex materials science challenges is highly desirable. Computational or hybrid computational/experimental approaches are welcome.
The candidate will be expected to develop an active externally funded research program and teach undergraduate and graduate courses in mechanical engineering. Candidate is required to have a PhD or equivalent degree in materials engineering, mechanical engineering, or another relevant discipline.
This position is expected to be filled at the Assistant Professor level. For experienced candidates, rank will be commensurate with experience.
