You will be a member of a world-class software development team that is comprised of Software Dev Engineers and Application Engineers. The team is responsible for developing, maintaining, and scaling the API endpoint to support our growing customer base and the work environment is fast-paced and collaborative. As an Application Engineer you will own scaling our systems, eliminating root causes for reported issues, proactively testing and eliminating issues, and building tooling to identify and resolve customer-facing issues. Key metrics you will be contributing to are towards the health of our systems measured by the volume of reported issues and time to resolve issues. You will also be responsible for writing large scale Big Data queries to process information from multiple sources in order to aid in risk decision making.

Additional details regarding the SP-API Risk Technologies team:

  1. Our mission is to preserve Partner trust by providing continuous and reliable protection for Selling Partner data through developer gating, compliance monitoring, risk analysis, and policy enforcement.
  2. We will improve risk prevention through informed and automated vetting processes focused on improving our ability to stop bad actors at the door.
  3. We will monitor to ensure utilization is compliant with policy and provide actionable insight.
  4. We will analyze developer data to drive prompt detection of risky behavior and enforce compliance with our 3P development community to ensure a secure and fair platform.

Key job responsibilities

You are a technical lead on your team and act as a subject matter expert for one or more services. You lead large multi-team projects and resolve the most complex support issues. You understand the business impact of support decisions. You drive the team to improve operational efficiency for all services through the identification and development of SLAs, metrics, monitors, procedures, tools, and documentation. You think proactively and work to prevent support issues before they are realized. You participate in design reviews to identify and mitigate support risks. You work closely with development and QA teams to improve the change management life-cycle. You have a deep understanding of production architecture and are familiar with operating system best practices. You identify and drive small production architecture changes. You regularly work with management to assign tasks and small projects to other Application Engineers. You design and develop complex high performing scripts and applications. You write large scale Big Data queries in order to aid in risk detection decision making.

You work with other Amazon leaders to share ideas and improve support across the company. You take a role in the strategic direction of the team. You play a significant role in hiring, mentoring, and training employees. You demonstrate excellent judgment when making decisions.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

- 2+ years of software development, or 2+ years of technical support experience
- Experience scripting in modern program languages
- Experience troubleshooting and debugging technical systems

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

- Knowledge of web services, distributed systems, and web application development
- Experience troubleshooting & maintaining hardware & software RAID
- Experience with REST web services, XML, JSON
