About us

If you are looking to join an independent and impartial treasury and risk management consultancy, PMC is your solution.

Established for over 34 years, we offer expert advice and practical solutions to financial sponsors and their portfolio companies globally – with offices in New York, London, Madrid and Singapore.

We are at an early and exciting stage of embedding AI and data capabilities across the firm. This hire is central to that effort.

The Role:

We are looking for a commercially minded AI and data professional to help us understand, build and embed technology that creates tangible value for the business. This is not a purely technical role. We need someone who is as comfortable in a conversation with a client-facing team member about what they actually need, as they are building the solution.

You will work across two main areas: developing AI-powered workflows and automations that improve how we work, and maintaining and extending our data infrastructure and reporting capabilities. Day to day this means identifying opportunities, building solutions using low-code and cloud tools, supporting adoption across the firm, and helping colleagues get more value from our technology.

You will work closely with our existing tech and data personnel, and well as teams across the business and our office locations globally.

Key Responsibilities

Business Analysis and Opportunity Identification

  • Engage with teams across the firm to understand their workflows, and commercial goals, and translate these into data / automation opportunities
  • Bring a commercial lens: focus on the value being created, not just the tool being built
  • Build trusted relationships and act as a credible thought partner on AI and data

AI and Automation Development

  • Design and build automation workflows using low-code platforms including n8n and Microsoft Power Platform
  • Develop and deploy AI-powered applications leveraging large language models, including prompt engineering, evaluation, and production reliability
  • Maintain and continuously improve existing automations as the firm grows
  • Stay current with developments in AI tooling and bring relevant innovations into the business in a practical, considered way

Data Infrastructure and Reporting

  • Help maintain and extend our Snowflake-based data lake, supporting data quality and accessibility across the business
  • Build and maintain Power BI dashboards and reports that drive commercial decision-making across service lines and geographies
  • Support ongoing data documentation and governance so teams can trust and effectively use the data available to them

Rollout, Adoption and Training

  • Support successful rollout of new tools and capabilities, working with teams to embed them into day-to-day workflows
  • Run training sessions and create practical guides that enable colleagues at all technical levels to get genuine value from AI and data tools
  • Act as an internal champion for data literacy and responsible AI use across the firm

Skills and Experience

Technical

  • Hands-on experience working with large language models and building AI-powered applications, including prompt engineering and evaluation
  • Experience with low-code workflow automation platforms, ideally n8n and/or Microsoft Power Platform / Power Automate
  • Proficiency building Power BI dashboards and reports for business stakeholders
  • Bonus - Working knowledge of Python for scripting, data handling, or API integration
  • Bonus - Experience with Snowflake as a cloud data platform

Professional

  • A commercial mindset: you think about business value first, technology second
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts clearly to non-technical colleagues and senior stakeholders
  • Structured, organised approach to running projects with the ability to manage multiple workstreams without losing sight of priorities
  • Background in professional services, consulting, or an internal enablement function would be a strong advantage
  • Self-starter who is comfortable operating with meaningful autonomy in a fast-moving environment

How Many Machine Learning Tools Do You Need to Know to Get a Machine Learning Job?

Machine learning is one of the most exciting and rapidly growing areas of tech. But for job seekers it can also feel like a maze of tools, frameworks and platforms. One job advert wants TensorFlow and Keras. Another mentions PyTorch, scikit-learn and Spark. A third lists Mlflow, Docker, Kubernetes and more. With so many names out there, it’s easy to fall into the trap of thinking you must learn everything just to be competitive. Here’s the honest truth most machine learning hiring managers won’t say out loud: 👉 They don’t hire you because you know every tool. They hire you because you can solve real problems with the tools you know. Tools are important — no doubt — but context, judgement and outcomes matter far more. So how many machine learning tools do you actually need to know to get a job? For most job seekers, the real number is far smaller than you think — and more logically grouped. This guide breaks down exactly what employers expect, which tools are core, which are role-specific, and how to structure your learning for real career results.

What Hiring Managers Look for First in Machine Learning Job Applications (UK Guide)

Whether you’re applying for machine learning engineer, applied scientist, research scientist, ML Ops or data scientist roles, hiring managers scan applications quickly — often making decisions before they’ve read beyond the top third of your CV. In the competitive UK market, it’s not enough to list skills. You must send clear signals of relevance, delivery, impact, reasoning and readiness for production — and do it within the first few lines of your CV or portfolio. This guide walks you through exactly what hiring managers look for first in machine learning applications, how they evaluate CVs and portfolios, and what you can do to improve your chances of getting shortlisted at every stage — from your CV and LinkedIn profile to your cover letter and project portfolio.
