Overview

Cambridge Consultants (CC) is in the business of delivering the future, faster. We are a technology innovation partner that excels at solving the world’s most complex engineering challenges. As our North America business rapidly expands, we are seeking a Techno-Commercial Leader for our Energy and Industry team—someone who operates at the intersection of deep technology and commercial strategy.

This unit is at the forefront of Industry 4.0. We don’t just design circuits; we build complex, intelligent systems that create fundamental, defensible business value for our clients. We are looking for a leader who can act as a “second CTO” to our clients—bridging their boardroom ambitions to the reality of complex R&D inembedded software, electronics, and hardware systems to drive the commercialisation of world-first technologies. If you are wired to challenge client assumptions, define what gets built and why, and turn embedded systems expertise into competitive advantage, this role is for you.

What You'll Do and The Impact You'll Make

We are searching for a T-shaped leader with a CTO mindset—someone whose deep roots in embedded software and electronics give them the credibility to set technical direction, and whose commercial instincts ensure that direction creates real business value. You will not be the primary Subject Matter Expert (SME) writing the firmware or laying out the PCB; instead, you will own the strategic question of what the system should do and why it matters to the client’s business—ensuring our teams are building theright thing, effectively and efficiently.

In this role, you will:

  • Lead the "What" and the "Why":Act as a trusted technical advisor to our clients, validating that the embedded architecture directly supports their commercial goals. You have the credibility and confidence to advise a client to pivot their technical strategy when new realities emerge—before sunk cost sets in.
  • Shape the Commercial Relationship:Look beyond fixed-scope delivery to identify long-term, shared-risk partnership opportunities. You help design technical roadmaps that elevate the client’s market position—proposing novel embedded solutions that create defensible competitive advantage, and helping structure the commercial terms that reflect the value being created.
  • Bridge Technical Disciplines:Draw on your background in embedded software and electronics to guide architectural decisions and interrogate client assumptions. You partner with clients to reframe their requests based on technical reality—protecting their investment by ensuring the system architecture is sound before significant capital is committed.
  • Navigate Ambiguity: Thrive in the highly uncertain early stages of innovation, defining clear technical paths forward when requirements are unknown or shifting. You translate extreme complexity—firmware constraints, hardware–software trade-offs, silicon maturity—into digestible commercial risk that gives client executives the confidence to make bold bets on unproven technologies.
  • Think Like a Founder: Collaborate with business development to define new market offerings grounded in embedded systems innovation. You help shape the technical direction of our Energy and Industry practice—identifying where advances in edge compute, connectivity, and intelligent control create genuine new value for clients, and building the business case to pursue them.

Your success is measured not by on-time delivery, but by client capability lift, strategic alignment, and the successful commercialisation of breakthrough technology. You will have opportunities to drive innovation across CC’s diverse market sectors, from industrial automation and energy to healthcare and beyond.

What You'll bring to the role

  • Deep Technical Expertise: Possess a deep technical foundation in embedded software and electronics—firmware architecture, hardware–software integration, real-time systems, and connected device design—using a 1st principles approach to transform complex problems into viable solutions.
  • Proven Technology Leadership: A proven track record of leading complex technical programmes where the technical strategy and the commercial outcome were inseparable. You set direction, manage client expectations at the executive level, and know when to challenge the brief rather than execute it.
  • Commercial & Strategic Focus: You prioritize value delivery over technical perfection. You can articulatewhy a technical decision matters to the client’s bottom line, their future valuation, or their competitive position—and can identify shared-risk partnership opportunities that extend the relationship beyond fixed-scope delivery.
  • Integration Expertise: Experience delivering systems where embedded software and hardware are tightly coupled and where the value lies in the intelligence—control algorithms, connectivity, edge compute, and sensing—as much as in the physical design. You can articulate that value in commercial terms, not just engineering ones.
  • Dynamic Communication:A resilient communicator who can translate firmware constraints and hardware trade-offs into boardroom-level commercial risk—while retaining the credibility and respect of deep technical SMEs. You engender the trust that allows clients to make bold bets on unproven technology.

Where to Advertise Machine Learning Jobs in the UK (2026 Guide)

Where to advertise machine learning jobs UK in 2026: the specialist boards and communities that reach ML, MLOps and deep learning engineering talent. The candidate pool is small, highly specialised and in demand across AI labs, financial services, healthcare, autonomous systems and consumer technology simultaneously. Machine learning engineers and researchers move between roles through professional networks, conference communities and specialist platforms — not general job boards where ML roles compete with unrelated software engineering positions for the same audience. This guide, published by MachineLearningJobs.co.uk, covers where to advertise machine learning roles in the UK in 2026, how the main platforms compare, what employers should expect to pay, and what the data says about hiring across different role types.

Machine Learning Jobs UK 2026: What to Expect Over the Next 3 Years

Machine Learning Jobs UK 2026: roles, salaries and the MLOps, LLM and generative AI hiring trends shaping UK ML careers over the next three years. Machine learning has undergone a transformation that few technology disciplines can match. In the space of three years it has moved from a specialism sitting at the edges of most organisations' technology strategies to a capability that sits at the centre of them. The tools have changed, the expectations have shifted, and the range of industries treating machine learning as a core business function — rather than an experimental one — has expanded dramatically. For job seekers, this creates both opportunity and complexity in roughly equal measure. The machine learning jobs market of 2026 is significantly larger than it was three years ago, but it is also significantly more demanding. Employers have developed more sophisticated expectations, the technical bar for specialist roles has risen, and the landscape of tools, frameworks, and architectural patterns that practitioners are expected to know has broadened considerably. The candidates who will thrive over the next three years are those who understand where the discipline is heading — which specialisms are attracting the most investment, which technologies are reshaping what machine learning engineers and researchers are expected to build, and how the definition of a machine learning career is evolving beyond the model-building core toward a much wider range of roles across the full ML lifecycle. This article breaks down what the UK machine learning jobs market is likely to look like through to 2028 — covering the titles emerging right now, the technologies driving employer demand, the skills that will matter most, and how to position your career ahead of the curve.
