Introduction

We are looking for an enthusiastic engineering student to join our Electronics & Software team, contributing to exciting healthcare projects.

Successful candidates can join us between May-September 2026.

There is no deadline for this role, as we recruit on a rolling basis. Once the position is filled, we will close the advert. We encourage you to apply as soon as possible.

What you’ll be doing

From day one, you’ll be an integral part of our multi-disciplinary medical development team, tackling real technical challenges while receiving guidance and training from experienced engineers. You’ll gain access to designing and developing embedded software to the highest possible standard. You will be part of a team developing things that will improve, or even save, someone’s life.

Each project is different, and you will get involved at all stages of the development lifecycle.

We can’t talk about everything we do, but here are some of our past projects we get excited about:

  • An emergency-use ventilator, developed in just over six weeks in response to the government’s Ventilator Challenge
  • A neurostimulation device allowing treatment to improve, or even restore, someone’s ability to walk
  • An autoinjector capable of delivering a wide range of drugs, while being intuitive to use and beautiful to look at

What you'll be doing

During your internship, you will likely:

  • Design, develop, and test embedded software for complex medical systems used in diagnostic, surgical, implantable device, and drug-delivery applications.
  • Contribute to a wide range of projects that span the full software development lifecycle.
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary and supportive team, gaining exposure to systems involving electronics, optics, fluidics, robotics, and user-interface components.
  • Work with industry best practices such as continuous integration, automated testing and analysis, and model-based systems engineering.

What You Can Bring

We’re looking for applicants who:

  • Are currently pursuing a degree in a relevant field such as Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, or Physics.
  • Are eligible to undertake a 12-month industrial placement as part of their course.
  • Have knowledge of, and experience using, C and/or C++

In addition, experience in any of the following areas would be advantageous (though not essential)

  • Experience developing embedded software
  • Experience with python
  • Knowledge of electronics and physical interactions with software
  • Signal processing, data science or AI knowledge

Please ensure your CV includes your A Level (or equivalent) subjects and grades, as well as any relevant university modules.

Covering statements are advantageous though by no means a necessity.

Where to Advertise Machine Learning Jobs in the UK (2026 Guide)

Where to advertise machine learning jobs UK in 2026: the specialist boards and communities that reach ML, MLOps and deep learning engineering talent. The candidate pool is small, highly specialised and in demand across AI labs, financial services, healthcare, autonomous systems and consumer technology simultaneously. Machine learning engineers and researchers move between roles through professional networks, conference communities and specialist platforms — not general job boards where ML roles compete with unrelated software engineering positions for the same audience. This guide, published by MachineLearningJobs.co.uk, covers where to advertise machine learning roles in the UK in 2026, how the main platforms compare, what employers should expect to pay, and what the data says about hiring across different role types.
