Introduction

Cambridge Consultants’ Quantum Algorithms group is looking for a Quantum Algorithm Developer to work at the forefront of quantum computing and its translation into real-world value. This is an exciting opportunity to take an active role in achieving the group’s mission of understanding how quantum computing will generate value for our clients and the practicalities of delivering that value. You will get the opportunity to test novel quantum and quantum-inspired algorithms aimed at solving society’s greatest challenges in chemistry, materials science, cryptography, optimisation, and more.

This is an opportunity to take ownership of technical ideas, shape the direction of a growing team, and contribute visibly to one of the most exciting emerging technology areas today. We take pride in researching and exploiting emerging fields, giving our clients access to the most innovative technologies ahead of the curve. If you have a drive to create new things, join us in this exciting mission.

What you will do

  • Conduct technical research focused on understanding the “art of the possible” in quantum algorithms and their application to industry problems.
  • Develop prototypes, demos, and proof of concept solutions for client problems.
  • Help Cambridge Consultants showcase its capability, broadening recognition of its technological leadership in this sector.
  • Work with colleagues across Cambridge Consultants to translate deep technical insight into compelling narratives for commercial and academic audiences.

Examples of projects undertaken by the group:

  • Understanding the potential benefits of quantum computers in modelling corrosion and the implementation hurdles to achieving this Preparing for the Future of Quantum
  • Supporting the UK energy sector in understanding the scale and timing of the threat that quantum computing poses to ongoing cybersecurity and potential mitigations
  • Working with a range of industry and academic partners to understand how improvements in quantum hardware could accelerate the path to commercial value. UK Research and Innovation partnership
  • Developing open-source software tools for quantum algorithm resource estimation to better understand when and how quantum computers will carry out useful computations.

Requirements

  • Degree in a relevant scientific field (Computer Science, Chemistry, Physics, Engineering, Mathematics or similar).
  • A passion for an aspect of quantum computation, such as quantum algorithms, quantum error correction, quantum chemistry, circuit compilation or similar.
  • Good knowledge of at least one programming language, ideally Python.
