Your Role

We are seeking a highly detail-oriented Medical Imaging Data Specialist to join our Product Development team. This role is critical to ensuring the quality, integrity, and readiness of medical imaging datasets (DICOM and associated metadata) for AI development, validation, and regulatory submissions in the medical device sector. You will work closely with AI engineers, product managers, software developers and clinical collaborators to curate, validate, process and manage imaging datasets, supporting the development of high-performing, compliant AI medical devices.

This role will contribute at both high and detailed levels to help team enhance the performance of our products. You will consult with engineering managers and teams to establish consistency in how our data should inform software performance and identify opportunities for performance improvement, and to offer implementation guidance where possible. You will be an excellent communicator, highly diplomatic, process-oriented, and always on the lookout for new approaches to both testing and data leadership. This role has a significant impact on the health of the Ultromics’ products as well as the success of development and testing within the company.

Your Responsibilities

  • Lead in the design, development, and maintenance of large-scale data processing pipelines (data anonymization, normalization, and rejection of incorrect data).
  • Facilitate the implementation of data curation pipelines (for instance data selection, data filtering and sharing of filtered and selected data across teams) for batch data processing.
  • Lead the design and implementation of scalable and secure medical imaging data (and associated metadata) storage and access solutions, optimised for machine learning workflows and AI model lifecycle.
  • Maintain and update, as necessary, the data storage and access solutions.
  • Optimise solutions for large data volumes (100s of thousands).
  • Ensure data quality, integrity, security, and compliance with governance policies.
  • Develop and maintain documentation for data infrastructure and processes.
  • Implement data testing and validation procedures.
  • Take ownership of data receiving, cleaning and curation from external partners into Ultromics storage, and quality control the transferred data.
  • Organise and handle structured and unstructured formats from multiple sources (clinical sites, databases, products, R&D).
  • Act across Engineering teams to ensure high quality product development and design transfer.
  • Drive improvements to Engineering processes.
  • Provide a technical sounding-board for solution concepts for product, service and engineering teams.
  • Facilitate metric driven decision making across Engineering, particularly on technology data application.
  • Follow good information governance practice throughout this job role and ensure compliance with Ultromics’ information security and data protection policies in all applicable assigned tasks.

Requirements

Your skills and experience:

  • BSc or MSc degree in Mathematics, Computational Sciences, Computer Science, Engineering or a related field, or equivalent experience (3+ years).
  • Proficiency in programming (Python at least required)
  • Proficiency with relational and non-relational databases.
  • Proficiency with cloud platforms e.g., Azure, AWS, GCP.
  • Proficiency with version control systems, e.g. Git.
  • Demonstrable experience managing high-volume structured and unstructured data and associated metadata.
  • Familiarity with data pipeline tools, e.g. Apache Airflow.
  • Knowledge of distributed data systems, e.g., Hadoop, Spark.

Your desired skills and experience:

  • MSc in relevant area or equivalent experience.
  • Proficiency with CI/CD practices
  • Understanding of DICOM standard.
  • Demonstrable experience managing high-volume medical imaging data and associated metadata.
  • Background in supporting data for AI/ML applications.
  • Familiarity with MLOps tools and frameworks, e.g. MLflow.
