Montel is expanding! We are looking for an analytically minded Junior Data Scientist to join our growing team in either Terneuzen or Teesside. You’ll be joining a friendly, ambitious, and international team that’s helping to shape the future of energy data in Europe. We’re big on curiosity, collaboration, and learning as we go. Whether you’re fine-tuning forecasting models or trying out new analytical approaches, you’ll have plenty of chances to grow your skills and learn from others who are just as passionate about energy and innovation as you are.

In this role, you will use your technical skills and problem-solving mindset to help clients turn complex energy market data into actionable insights across the European energy sector. This is a unique opportunity for candidates excited about the energy sector, passionate about data science, and eager to contribute to meaningful, data-driven insights. If you’ve got strong quantitative skills, a love for data science, and an interest in the energy world, we’d really love to hear from you.

Please note: We are unable to offer visa sponsorship for this role.

Job location

We’re looking for someone based in either the Netherlands who can work from our Terneuzen office or the UK who can work from our Stockton-on-Tees office. Once your induction is successfully completed, you’ll have the flexibility to be in the office at least two days a week. We get that everyone has their own way of working, so we offer a flexible, hybrid setup to help make that work for you.

Key responsibilities

  • Work closely with market experts and analysts to transform raw data into valuable intelligence.
  • Analyse European energy market data to identify trends, anomalies, and patterns.
  • Build, maintain, and optimize forecasting and analytical models using Python and modern data science tools.
  • Monitor and evaluate model performance to ensure reliability and accuracy.
  • Deploy models into production and collaborate with stakeholders to integrate insights into business decisions.

What we are looking for

  • Strong quantitative and analytical skills (e.g. in statistics, mathematics, physics, or computer science).
  • Proficiency in Python and familiarity with data analysis libraries (pandas, NumPy, scikit-learn, etc.).
  • Genuine interest in the energy sector and motivation to learn about market dynamics, with any relevant studies, experience or exposure seen as a plus but not essential.
  • Fluent in English (any extra languages are a bonus).

We offer

  • Salary: Competitive (negotiable depending on experience).
  • Hybrid and flexible working.
  • 25 days annual holiday.
  • Company pension.
  • Opportunities for career growth and plenty of training opportunities.
  • Opportunity for European travel.
  • Regular social activities and events.
  • Additional benefits are available depending on office location.

Where to Advertise Machine Learning Jobs in the UK (2026 Guide)

Where to advertise machine learning jobs UK in 2026: the specialist boards and communities that reach ML, MLOps and deep learning engineering talent. The candidate pool is small, highly specialised and in demand across AI labs, financial services, healthcare, autonomous systems and consumer technology simultaneously. Machine learning engineers and researchers move between roles through professional networks, conference communities and specialist platforms — not general job boards where ML roles compete with unrelated software engineering positions for the same audience. This guide, published by MachineLearningJobs.co.uk, covers where to advertise machine learning roles in the UK in 2026, how the main platforms compare, what employers should expect to pay, and what the data says about hiring across different role types.

Machine Learning Jobs UK 2026: What to Expect Over the Next 3 Years

Machine Learning Jobs UK 2026: roles, salaries and the MLOps, LLM and generative AI hiring trends shaping UK ML careers over the next three years. Machine learning has undergone a transformation that few technology disciplines can match. In the space of three years it has moved from a specialism sitting at the edges of most organisations' technology strategies to a capability that sits at the centre of them. The tools have changed, the expectations have shifted, and the range of industries treating machine learning as a core business function — rather than an experimental one — has expanded dramatically. For job seekers, this creates both opportunity and complexity in roughly equal measure. The machine learning jobs market of 2026 is significantly larger than it was three years ago, but it is also significantly more demanding. Employers have developed more sophisticated expectations, the technical bar for specialist roles has risen, and the landscape of tools, frameworks, and architectural patterns that practitioners are expected to know has broadened considerably. The candidates who will thrive over the next three years are those who understand where the discipline is heading — which specialisms are attracting the most investment, which technologies are reshaping what machine learning engineers and researchers are expected to build, and how the definition of a machine learning career is evolving beyond the model-building core toward a much wider range of roles across the full ML lifecycle. This article breaks down what the UK machine learning jobs market is likely to look like through to 2028 — covering the titles emerging right now, the technologies driving employer demand, the skills that will matter most, and how to position your career ahead of the curve.
