About The Role

We’re looking for a Data Engineering & Infrastructure Manager who will lead the strategy for Data Engineering and Data Platform capabilities, and oversee a portfolio of change projects while ensuring a reliable and secure production data environment. You will work closely with teams across Retail, Logistics, Technology and beyond to ensure data is embedded into everything we do, manage budgets, and build strong relationships with stakeholders at every level.

Here's What You Can Expect To Be Doing

You’ll lead and develop our Data Engineering Lead and their teams of data and platform engineers, creating and delivering the strategy for Data Engineering and Data Infrastructure across the group. Day to day, you’ll oversee a portfolio of change projects while keeping our production data environment running smoothly and securely. You’ll focus on continually improving how our people, processes, and technology operate, working closely with teams across Retail, Logistics, Technology and beyond to make sure data is embedded into everything we do. You’ll also manage budgets, build strong relationships with stakeholders at every level, and ensure that the work your teams deliver is aligned, impactful, and drives value across the business.

A Few Things About You
  • You’re a practical strategist — someone who can spot opportunities, design solutions, and bring people with you.
  • You’ve got a great eye for detail but can also zoom out and think creatively when needed.
  • You’re experienced in leading managers and planning ahead for the next 12-24 months.
  • You’re passionate about building a "data‑first" culture, where data fuels decisions and innovation.
  • You’re confident partnering with different teams and stakeholders, from hands‑on engineers to senior leaders.
  • You’ve delivered multiple data projects at once and can clearly articulate business value and ROI.
  • You stay curious about industry trends and emerging tech, and you know how to explain complex topics in simple, accessible language.
Key Responsibilities
  • Define, create, and deliver the group-level Data Engineering and Platform strategy.
  • Lead the 12-24 month planning and budget for your area.
  • Oversee data deliverables for a wide portfolio of business projects.
  • Ensure our data platforms are high‑performing, resilient, and available 24/7.
  • Lead a team of twelve, including development of managers and technical specialists.
  • Recruit and develop team members, creating strong business cases for resources when needed.
  • Define data standards, processes, and best practices — and ensure they’re followed across AO.
  • Build strong, trusted relationships with senior leaders in Tech and the wider business.
  • Support training and development so AO stays ahead in data capability.
  • Partner closely with our Data Science and Analytics teams.
  • Manage relationships with vendors, partners, and third‑party service providers.

Where to Advertise Machine Learning Jobs in the UK (2026 Guide)

Advertising machine learning jobs in the UK requires a different approach to most technical hiring. The candidate pool is small, highly specialised and in demand across AI labs, financial services, healthcare, autonomous systems and consumer technology simultaneously. Machine learning engineers and researchers move between roles through professional networks, conference communities and specialist platforms — not general job boards where ML roles compete with unrelated software engineering positions for the same audience. This guide, published by MachineLearningJobs.co.uk, covers where to advertise machine learning roles in the UK in 2026, how the main platforms compare, what employers should expect to pay, and what the data says about hiring across different role types.

New Machine Learning Employers to Watch in 2026: UK and Global Companies Driving ML Innovation

Machine learning (ML) has transitioned from a specialised field into a core business capability. In 2026, organisations across healthcare, finance, robotics, autonomous systems, natural language processing, and analytics are expanding their machine learning teams to build scalable intelligent products and services. For professionals exploring opportunities on www.MachineLearningJobs.co.uk , understanding the companies that are scaling, winning investment, or securing high‑impact contracts is crucial. This article highlights the new and high‑growth machine learning employers to watch in 2026, focusing on UK innovators, international firms with significant UK presence, and global platforms investing in machine learning talent locally.

How Many Machine Learning Tools Do You Need to Know to Get a Machine Learning Job?

Machine learning is one of the most exciting and rapidly growing areas of tech. But for job seekers it can also feel like a maze of tools, frameworks and platforms. One job advert wants TensorFlow and Keras. Another mentions PyTorch, scikit-learn and Spark. A third lists Mlflow, Docker, Kubernetes and more. With so many names out there, it’s easy to fall into the trap of thinking you must learn everything just to be competitive. Here’s the honest truth most machine learning hiring managers won’t say out loud: 👉 They don’t hire you because you know every tool. They hire you because you can solve real problems with the tools you know. Tools are important — no doubt — but context, judgement and outcomes matter far more. So how many machine learning tools do you actually need to know to get a job? For most job seekers, the real number is far smaller than you think — and more logically grouped. This guide breaks down exactly what employers expect, which tools are core, which are role-specific, and how to structure your learning for real career results.
