Job Description

As a member of our growing team, you will be working alongside the customer to execute high accuracy testing in a variety of vehicles trials. This involves day to day execution of customer programmes that cover the breadth of Millbrook testing disciplines from powertrain through climatic & component to full vehicle dynamic tests which include product qualification, involving liaison with approval authorities or end users. We validate, test and support military vehicles for OE manufacturers, Government Agencies and Industry partners, utilising the unique facilities at UTAC Millbrook.

You will be primarily supporting the Defence and Vehicle departments and be responsible for processing and analysing test data from vehicle trials. The role ensures accurate measurement, validation, and reporting of vehicle performance and safety. Working closely with engineers, trial managers, and reporting teams, this role transforms raw test data into meaningful insights that support technical decision‑making and project delivery.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Validate, and manage data from a wide range of vehicle test activities (mobility, WBV/HAV, road‑load, environmental, and systems testing).
  • Analysis of data from sensors such as accelerometers, microphones, strain gauges and wheel force transducers.
  • Detailed analysis such as fatigue/damage calculation and munitions carriage analysis
  • Advise and instruct test instrumentation, data acquisition systems, and measurement equipment to ensure accuracy and reliability.
  • Process large data sets using appropriate software tools (e.g. nCode, Excel, Python).
  • Analyse results to identify trends, anomalies, and performance metrics against defined scope and requirements.
  • Prepare technical summaries, visualisations, and structured reports for engineers, project managers, and customer stakeholders.
  • Support the design and implementation of test measurement plans with the lead test engineer, ensuring data integrity and traceability.
  • Liaise with cross‑functional teams (engineering, quality assurance, safety, and operations) to ensure results are understood and actionable.
  • Ensure all activities comply with the relevant legislation, defence standards, security regulations, and Health & Safety requirements.
  • Supporting Principal and Senior Engineers in testing and capability development.
  • Act in accordance with the code of conduct for UTAC group staff at all times.
Qualifications

Person Specification

Experience

  • Experience in data acquisition, measurement, and analysis within a test environment (automotive, aerospace, defence, or similar).
  • Proficiency in data processing and analysis tools (e.g., MATLAB, Python, nCode, or similar).
  • Familiarity with damage calculations and test cycle derivations.
  • Strong problem‑solving and analytical skills, with attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to interpret technical requirements and convert them into measurable test criteria.
  • Experience producing clear, concise reports and presenting findings to technical and non‑technical audiences.
  • Familiarity with vehicle systems, instrumentation, and environmental test procedures (desirable).
  • Understanding of Defence Standards (Def Stan), ISO, or other relevant quality/test frameworks (desirable).

Qualifications

  • Degree or equivalent experience in Engineering, Data Science, Physics, or related discipline.
  • Training in test instrumentation or measurement systems (advantageous).
  • Training in advanced data processing and analysis techniques.
  • Security clearance eligibility required.
  • Chartered engineer status or working towards (preferred)
  • Full UK Drivers licence

Owing to the sensitive nature of the works involved in specialist defence projects, candidates will be required to hold, or be able to hold, valid security clearance (SC) and in order to do so will need to be:

  • British National (residency for the last 5 years)
  • Hold a UK Passport
