We are looking for aLead Data Engineerto shape the technical direction of our Databricks Common Data Platform while ensuring it supports our position as a leading logistics provider in the UK. This hands-on role combines solid technical leadership with strategic systems thinking to drive our data engineering initiatives forward.

You will be accountable for:
- Leading by example, through hands-on development and review of a quality Python and SQL codebase
- Contributing towards a productive team culture through the adoption of automated CI/CD and testing industry practices
- Inputting into planning and estimating work / delivery roadmap
- Keeping up to date with Databricks platform developments and maintaining tech currency of internal systems
- Ensuring accurate and adequate documentation, and system resilience is maintained
- Working with cross-functional teams to contribute towards Evri's data strategy
- Identifying and implementing cost optimisation ideas
- Coaching and mentoring a distributed team of data engineers across multiple delivery projects
- Establishing data governance frameworks for secure handling of delivery information
- Identifying opportunities for improvement across all data engineering projects
- Managing relationships with stakeholders across operations, technology, and business teams to understand requirements and ensure
- Supporting developer interviews
- Working directly with the Head of Data Engineering to align the teams work with Evri's strategic objectives
To be successful in this role you will require the following…
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field; Master's preferred
- 8+ years of experience in data engineering, with 1+ years in lead position
- Experience leading distributed teams in a hybrid work environment
- Expert-level knowledge of Databricks platform for logistics applications
- Advanced expertise in Python development for delivery optimization
- Mastery of SQL optimization for nationwide logistics operations
- Deep understanding of data modelling for parcel tracking and delivery systems
- Experience with large-scale logistics data pipeline optimization
- Experience with Streaming and Batch Spark workloads
