We are looking for aLead Data Engineerto shape the technical direction of our Databricks Common Data Platform while ensuring it supports our position as a leading logistics provider in the UK. This hands-on role combines solid technical leadership with strategic systems thinking to drive our data engineering initiatives forward.

You will be accountable for:

  • Leading by example, through hands-on development and review of a quality Python and SQL codebase
  • Contributing towards a productive team culture through the adoption of automated CI/CD and testing industry practices
  • Inputting into planning and estimating work / delivery roadmap
  • Keeping up to date with Databricks platform developments and maintaining tech currency of internal systems
  • Ensuring accurate and adequate documentation, and system resilience is maintained
  • Working with cross-functional teams to contribute towards Evri's data strategy
  • Identifying and implementing cost optimisation ideas
  • Coaching and mentoring a distributed team of data engineers across multiple delivery projects
  • Establishing data governance frameworks for secure handling of delivery information
  • Identifying opportunities for improvement across all data engineering projects
  • Managing relationships with stakeholders across operations, technology, and business teams to understand requirements and ensure
  • Supporting developer interviews
  • Working directly with the Head of Data Engineering to align the teams work with Evri's strategic objectives

To be successful in this role you will require the following…

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field; Master's preferred
  • 8+ years of experience in data engineering, with 1+ years in lead position
  • Experience leading distributed teams in a hybrid work environment
  • Expert-level knowledge of Databricks platform for logistics applications
  • Advanced expertise in Python development for delivery optimization
  • Mastery of SQL optimization for nationwide logistics operations
  • Deep understanding of data modelling for parcel tracking and delivery systems
  • Experience with large-scale logistics data pipeline optimization
  • Experience with Streaming and Batch Spark workloads
