Primary Purpose of the Role:
The role will be as Systems Engineer Architect working with the engineering team in the OME sector of the Thales Land and Air Systems Division.
The role requires the engineer to understand and support the architectural design of the product.
Key Responsibilities and Tasks:
This role will work as part of a team in a project environment, operating as the System Engineer Architect on various programmes.
The successful candidate will be responsible for planning their work, using systems thinking to analyse problems, managing, writing and verifying technical requirements, producing technical reports and specifications, performing systems analyses, meeting milestones and working as part of a team to deliver successful programmes.
You will be working in conjunction with a System Engineering Manager and in a multi-discipline teams.
Tasks to include
- Applying a systems thinking approach to architecture design for the lifecycle of the product.
- Modelling the architecture using ARCADIA Architectural Framework
- Model Based System Engineering
- Identifying methods to test and validate the architecture
- Detailing the design and documenting design decisions and rationale.
- Working within the scope of the Company’s Processes and the System Engineering Management Plan
- Developing the system design in accordance with the system architecture and requirements.
- Perform system modelling using system engineering tools
- Manage technical requirements flow-down and implementation from customer to sub-systems.
- Develop and perform system verification methods to demonstrate compliance with the customer’s needs.
- Working within the engineering team to accomplish engineering activities to time, budget and quality.
- Working closely with the System Engineering Manager to ensure that activities are scheduled in accordance with programme schedule needs.
- Contributing to and writing Engineering Plans, Technical Specifications, interface Documents, Test Plans and Technical Reports
- Ensuring that processes, methods and tools are appropriate for the activities to be performed
- Exhibiting good team-working skills, able to delegate & motivate effectively, sharing information
- Ensuring that design certification for contract requirements and appropriate legislation, including product safety, is performed correctly.
- Supporting engineering reviews and prepare associated technical documentation.
Skills
- Proven experience in product design
- Knowledge of analogue and digital circuit design
- An understanding of the fundamentals of Systems Engineering methodologies around Design, Verification, Validation, Qualification and Acceptance
- Self motivated and capable of working alone and with teams
- Must have good communication skills
- Experience producing documentation with clarity and precision.
- Be prepared to challenge other’s views and willing to accept constructive feedback.
- Have a methodical and organised approach
- Have proven experience of working in an engineering or research environment
- Having an appreciation of electronics and EMC design and problems
- Having an understanding of the impact of the environment on mechanical design performance and choice of materials
- IBM DOORS (Vs 9 or later) or an equivalent requirements management tool
- MATLAB 2013 or later version
