About the Opportunity

Are you ready to lead the next stage of an evolving Analytics product at Contentful? We’re looking for a technical leader with an entrepreneurial spirit and a pioneering mindset to chart new paths, tackle complex challenges, and guide our engineering team toward product-market fit. You’ll draw on your technical leadership, architectural insights, and interest in analytics to refine system architectures and ensure our platform scales to meet enterprise demands. As a hands-on leader, you’ll work closely with our CTO, EVP, and other senior engineers, engaging directly with customers, collaborating with cross-functional teams, and mentoring those around you—all while maintaining a clear vision for the product’s future. If you’re driven by building products that truly resonate with users and setting the pace for innovation, this role offers you the chance to make a lasting impact.

What to expect?

1. Technical Leadership & Architecture

Define and drive the end-to-end architecture of our analytics platform, from ensuring seamless integration through our SDKs, over event ingestion APIs to data pipelines and processing down to the query layer.

Establish strategies for scalability, resilience, and performance optimization to reliably handle billions of events every day.

Provide hands-on guidance in clearing bottlenecks and resolving challenging technical issues within data pipelines, APIs, and backend systems.

Mentor and guide engineers to see how their work fits into the bigger picture, fostering a collaborative environment that encourages diverse perspectives and supports informed technical decision-making.

2. Product & Vision Alignment

Partner with senior leadership and product leaders to shape the product roadmap, ensuring technical feasibility aligns with strategic business goals.

Stay attuned to customer needs, participating in discussions and calls to understand requirements and shape the platform’s technical direction.

Offer architectural insight that transcends individual components, keeping the bigger picture in focus.

3. Hands-On Engineering & Implementation

Collaborate closely with the engineering team to contribute code and architectural artifacts, setting a high quality bar through shared best practices.

Together with your colleagues, design and optimize data pipelines using modern tools and frameworks (e.g., GCP BigQuery, PubSub, Dataflow, Dataform).

Work as a team to architect and implement APIs and protocols for high-traffic, customer-facing data products using TypeScript, leveraging modern cloud-native and serverless architectures.

Collaboratively deploy and operate statistical and machine learning models in production, ensuring reliability, scalability, and long-term maintainability.

What you need to be successful

1. Technical Expertise

Extensive experience building and scaling data-intensive products, ensuring system scalability and performance under high-volume workloads, ideally handling billions of events daily.

Demonstrated ability to craft end-to-end system architectures and oversee their implementation.

Strong coding skills and commercial experience with server-side TypeScript.

Proven track record in designing APIs and protocols for high-traffic, enterprise-grade applications.

Cloud-native experience is a big plus - our data stack is built on GCP and the Cloudflare Workers Platform.

Familiarity with modern data engineering practices and frameworks.

2. Soft Skills & Leadership

Entrepreneurial mindset with the ability to work autonomously and propose innovative solutions.

Strong collaboration skills, with the capacity to build consensus and alignment across different product lines and teams.

Customer-centric approach, comfortable engaging with clients to understand their challenges and incorporate their feedback.

Excellent English communication skills (verbal and written), capable of conveying complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.

3. Domain Experience

Ideally, you have several years of experience working with high-throughput, customer-facing analytics or data platforms. This may include leading analytics providers, large-scale consumer or streaming platforms, AdTech or observability vendors, or high-volume eCommerce environments. Any setting where you’ve managed massive streams of event data and delivered timely insights will help you excel in this role.

Proven success in B2B enterprise product environments, delivering scalable and secure solutions to demanding customers.
