Moniepoint Group is Africa’s fastest-growing company, ranked by the Financial Times in 2024. Backed by top investors like Google’s Africa Investment Fund, QED Investors, and British International Investment, we recently raised a $110 million Series C to drive our mission further.

We began with a vision to address Nigeria's financial inclusion gap, where millions lack access to essential financial services due to limited infrastructure. Our mission is to empower millions of small businesses and individuals across Africa to achieve financial happiness and success, and to drive financial inclusion at scale, through our accessible banking, payments, and lending products.

With our new subsidiary in the UK, we want to make cross border trade and payments for African businesses and individuals seamless and extremely easy. We are now seeking an experienced and highly motivated FinCrime professional to lead our Transaction Monitoring and Investigations team. As our Sr. Manager, Transaction Monitoring & Investigations, you’ll make a huge impact and you’ll get to build up from scratch and lead our transaction monitoring function end to end for our UK entity! This is a great opportunity for you to have complete ownership of a department, and to build something from 0 to 1.

Location:London, hybrid (2-3 days a week at the office). We are located in Southwark. Or, if you are located far outside of London, we are open to discuss the possibility of the role being a full remote role.

Your responsibilities will include but not be limited to:

  1. Overseeing the transaction monitoring framework, covering the end-to-end monitoring lifecycle, including data ingestion, detection mechanisms, and alert/case management.
  2. Being extremely hands on with and providing guidance on Transaction Monitoring system setup and continuous improvement, with focus on technical optimization like threshold segmentation, risk mapping, and automated control design.
  3. Analyzing regulatory guidelines and collaborating with product, operations, and compliance to adjust monitoring controls as needed.
  4. Leveraging in-depth knowledge of UK Financial Crime regulations to stay updated on evolving risks.
  5. Building and running the Transaction Monitoring department for Moniepoint GB Limited, our FX focused subsidiary, including multi-location teams (in Nigeria to start with) and setting up a department with multiple leads.
  6. Driving strategy and objectives for the Transaction Monitoring function.
  7. Ensuring customer service aligns with financial crime risk management and SLAs.
  8. Partnering with 2LOD to integrate policy decisions into operations.
  9. Managing KPIs to maintain consistent service standards.
  10. Acting as the main, trusted subject matter expert internally for transaction monitoring, with adept stakeholder management.
  11. Fostering a positive and compliant workplace culture, even in a remote setting.

To be the right candidate for this position, you must be a Transaction Monitoring "TM" subject matter expert, and have years of hands on experience within Transaction Monitoring, before stepping up to lead the "TM" area yourself. As a person you are results driven while also constantly maintaining a sound level of professionalism, integrity and respect.

The technical skills we’re looking for and attributes for success include:

  • Clear understanding of the strategic implications of financial crime regulation.
  • Ability to implement AML/CTF regulatory directives and articulate their impact on firms.
  • Knowledge of payments and payment processing; experience with FX/cross-border payments is a strong plus.
  • Extensive experience in transaction monitoring and transformational projects.
  • Proven experience building a transaction monitoring framework and team.
  • Prior experience managing a remote team in a different country.
  • Deep understanding of the end-to-end monitoring lifecycle (e.g., data ingestion, detection mechanisms, alert/case management).
  • Familiarity with methods for maintaining monitoring systems (e.g., threshold and segmentation optimization).
  • Knowledge of automated control development (e.g., risk mapping, scenario/control design).
  • Awareness of machine learning and AI applications in the monitoring domain.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to present information clearly.
