We are seeking a seasoned software engineering manager to join the Amazon Studios AI Labs team. This is a hybrid applied science and engineering team that is developing bleeding edge AI solutions to enhance efficiency, elevate creativity, and ultimately redefine industry standards, ensuring that every decision is accelerated by intelligence and foresight. Key job responsibilities
You'll lead a team of engineers and applied scientists (with ample support) based in London UK working on critical media processing systems that power Amazon Studios' content delivery, requiring both technical depth and leadership acumen to drive complex initiatives across multiple teams. As a senior technical leader, you'll help architect and implement scalable media processing solutions while helping to make critical technical decisions that balance speed, quality, and operational excellence. Your responsibilities include providing technical mentorship, reviewing design documents, and driving operational excellence through robust monitoring and automation. You'll own end-to-end delivery of major features, navigate complex cross-team dependencies, and drive technical strategy aligned with business goals. The role demands strong leadership in mentoring junior engineers, representing the team in senior leadership forums, and making data-driven decisions that balance business needs with technical constraints. Success in this position will be measured through delivery of high-quality scalable solutions, team growth and retention, operational excellence metrics, cross-team project success, and customer satisfaction. The ideal candidate will demonstrate exceptional technical judgment, leadership skills, and the ability to deliver results through others while maintaining Amazon's high technical standards and customer-first mindset.

A day in the life
A typical day starts with reviewing operational metrics and addressing critical issues in our processing systems. You lead standups coordinating engineers. Your day balances operational needs with strategic planning through technical deep-dives on ML architecture, cross-team API reviews, and alignment sessions with Product and Science leadership. You focus on team development via 1:1s and mentoring while providing technical guidance on production issues and design reviews. Documentation and communication remain constant priorities, from status updates to business reviews highlighting dubbing quality improvements. Success requires strategic thinking, technical depth, and people management skills - all focused on delivering excellent customer experiences.

About the team
This role is in a team that is building a new family of AI products for Amazon Studios. This team is considered strategic and has visibility with Prime Video Amazon Studios leadership at the highest levels. The role offers a chance to build and launch new AI services from the ground up, learn the state of the art in machine learning (ML) technology, and work closely with an exceptional group of product, engineering, and science leaders.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

- Experience managing engineers
- Experience in engineering
- Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations
- Experience in leading the definition and development of multi tier web services
- Experience designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems
- Experience partnering with product or program management teams

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

- Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy
- Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers
- Experience in managing hybrid teams (Software Developers & Applied Scientists / ML Engineers)
