eMoodie Ltd. is an Edinburgh-based digital mental health start-up. With a mission to revolutionise mental health care, eMoodie has been engaged in an ambitious R&D programme to harness AI to transform mental health screening and diagnostics. In 2025, the company is set to launch their flagship product—eMoodie Minds, a mental health app which screens for symptoms of common mental health difficulties and provides targeted digital interventions ultimately aimed at preventing burnout and enhancing wellbeing. In parallel, we are developing Saving SAM, a system to detect and prevent drug overdoses.


Job overview


We are looking for a highly motivated, proficient, and proactive full-stack software developer to help us build and deliver our MVP to market. The ideal candidate is passionate about software development and technology in general, likes to learn new things continuously, is comfortable with change, and is capable of working in a dynamic, fast-paced start-up environment.


You will work with the rest of the eMoodie team, which includes clinical psychologists, the CTO, data scientists, a data engineer, a UI/UX designer, and another software developer. 


Responsibilities


  • Lead the development and maintenance of the eMoodie Minds product (Flutter mobile app + Strapi/NodeJS backend).
  • Architect, build, and optimise backend services, ensuring smooth communication between frontend and backend systems.
  • Collaborate with other members of the team to translate business requirements into technical solutions.
  • Conduct code reviews, ensuring adherence to coding standards, best practices, and security protocols.
  • Stay up-to-date with emerging technologies and industry trends, identifying opportunities for innovation and improvement within the product.
  • Mentor and guide junior developers, providing technical leadership and fostering a culture of continuous improvement.


Skills and qualifications


  • 5+ years of experience in software development with a focus on full-stack web and mobile applications.
  • Strong expertise in Flutter for building scalable and high-performance mobile applications for both iOS and Android platforms.
  • Proficient in backend development using Node.js (experience with Strapi Headless CMS is a plus).
  • Strong problem-solving skills and experience working in an Agile development environment.
  • Experience in leading development projects and mentoring junior developers.
  • Ability to work independently and be proactive.
  • Excellent collaboration and communication skills, with a proven track record of working effectively in cross-functional teams.
  • A drive to learn and master new technologies and techniques.
  • A sincere interest in improving the lives of individuals who suffer from mental health problems.
  • (Bonus) Have previous experience integrating software with wearables such as smartwatches.
  • (Bonus) Have previous experience with .NET Frameworks.
  • (Bonus) Has previously worked in a start-up environment.
  • (Bonus) Past experience working in HealthTech.
