As a member of a new team based in the heart of Manchester city centre, the Senior Scientist will be responsible for leading the creation, analysis, interpretation, and improvement of optimization routines and pricing strategies. They will be integral in creating valuable insights into site/product level price elasticity and understanding the impact of competitive price changes.

The individual must be able to present the results/findings both internally and externally through reports, charts, tables, and slide presentations, using established statistical methods as appropriate to the objectives.

The Senior Scientist will:

  • Develop and apply knowledge of mathematical and statistical analysis to improve dynamic pricing software, to provide competitive pricing and price perception in the marketplace.
  • Lead the charge to design, execute, analyze and interpret pricing experiments to understand real-time price elasticity.
  • Develop scientific metrics, analytics, and insight generators for price optimization.
  • Document key pricing strategies, and analyze and track progress on strategic pricing decisions.
  • Identify a potential business problem, or take a business problem originated by others, and create a solution that allows repeatable analysis and productization of the solution.
  • Report analysis and results to Head of Science and Research.
  • Lead project meetings and actively participate by offering feedback on assigned tasks and gather additional information from internal members linked to the analysis project.
  • Work with product development to assist them in implementing models in production-ready tools and services.
  • Collaborate with the development team to create a single integrated library of intellectual property with appropriate management processes.
  • Increase skills on a continuous basis to remain current with new processes, methodologies, and techniques.
  • Mentor and coach analysts on the team on optimization, pricing analytics, and strategy.
  • Communicate with international regional office personnel during non-business hours as required.

What do you need to apply?

  • A Master’s/PhD degree in Statistics, Applied Mathematics, Operational Research, Economics, Computer Science or a related engineering/science degree is preferred.
  • 5+ years of mathematical and/or statistical analysis work experience is required, preferably in the commercial arena.
  • Expertise in statistical and mathematical methods, including: mathematical modeling, optimization (e.g., discrete/continuous, constrained/unconstrained, linear/convex/nonlinear, etc.), statistics, machine learning, and data analytics (e.g., prediction, time-series, regression, Bayesian models, etc.).
  • High proficiency in programming with a statistical software language – preferably R or Python.
  • Proficiency in Econometrics including: elasticities, pricing, market competition.
  • Experience in C/C++, SQL programming, and using Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio. Plus Excel.
  • The ability to review and suggest new and enhanced modeling methodologies to meet future business requirements.
  • Motivation to learn new mathematical/statistical skills and techniques.
  • Strong leadership skills with an ability to guide and motivate others within the team.
