A Little More About Your Role * Deliveringbespoke numerically-oriented geoscience projects to assist decisionmaking in developing the subsurface, with a particular focus onmodelling flow, transport and fluid migration processes. Ourprojects span: geological storage of nuclear waste; CO 2 andhydrogen, deep geothermal energy; mine hydrogeology and waste; andtunnels/excavations for infrastructure. * Projects typicallyrequire groundwater flow and solute transport hydrogeologicalmodelling, reservoir simulation and history matching, uncertaintyanalysis and/or simulation of coupled-processes (e.g.thermo-hydro-mechanical-chemical-gas). * Assisting with thedevelopment of software solutions (e.g. for data processing,analysis, numerical simulation, post-processing and visualisation)within the global geoscience modelling team, including developmentof WSPs in-house FracMan modelling software, to stay ahead of themarket. * Being proactive with WSPs global practice area networks(PANs) in seeking opportunities to collaborate on business andtechnical initiatives across Energy, Infrastructure, Nuclear wasteand Mining sectors. * Maintaining close links with our commercialclients in WSPs various business sectors, including seekingopportunities to offer our existing services, innovating newsolutions to fit clients needs, or delivering software trainingcourses. * Supporting business development and writing proposals tohelp grow our portfolio of modelling projects and technicaloffering. * Production of high-quality scientific/technicalreports, and delivery of presentations. * Communicate projectdeliverables to clients and be an advocate for our modellingservices to both external and internal stakeholders. * Stayingabreast of the latest technological advances and industry trends inthe fields of computational geoscience and numerical modelling.Your Team * You will be joining a multi-disciplinary team ofexperts in the UK, with a focus on the delivery of technologicallydriven consulting and software solutions. Our projects range acrossindustries including Energy (including renewables such as deepgeothermal and CCUS, as well as oil & gas), Nuclear wastedisposal (spanning geosphere characterisation, safety andengineering), Infrastructure (tunnels, slopes, geotechnics andunderground storage), and Mining (from slope/bench stability,underground mining, to lithium extraction and leaching). * Thisrole reports to leaders of the WSP Geoscience group, located in theUK. The core of our UK-based team is made up of approximately 20members, covering geology, geomechanics, flow simulation,geophysics and software engineering. We operate internationally androutinely collaborate with international geoscience and engineeringcolleagues in Europe, North America, the Middle East, andAustralasia on the delivery of world-class consulting projects. * Achoice of office locations is available for the role, withcolleagues sitting in London/Reading, Bristol, Cardiff, Exeter,Nottingham, Manchester and Edinburgh. What We Will Be Looking ForYou To Demonstrate * Doctorate or Masters degree in a Mathematics,Engineering, Earth Science or Physics-related field. * Strong trackrecord of the use and development of numerical subsurface flowmodelling tools and techniques, as applied to hydrogeologicaland/or reservoir engineering applications. * Experience ofscripting languages such as (ideally) Python, or similar (e.g. R,Matlab). * Ability to demonstrate a resourceful approach to workand working independently, displaying strong initiative anddecision-making skills. * Excellent verbal communication skillswith the ability to both absorb and impart technical concepts andinformation effectively. * Excellent scientific writing ability,with experience of producing high-quality technical reports andscientific papers.
