Job title: Senior UAV Performance Modelling Engineer

The Malloy Aeronautics Team:

Malloy Aeronautics Limited specializes in the development of heavy lift unmanned air vehicles (UAVs) for both civilian and military uses. Located in Berkshire, our operations are notable for their focus on in-house design and manufacturing. This vertical integration means we control the production of most aircraft components on-site, enhancing our ability to innovate and maintain high standards across all stages of development.

About The Role:

We are seeking an experienced Performance Modelling Engineer specializing in fixed wing and multirotor drone systems. This role combines aerodynamics expertise with computational modelling to optimize aircraft and drone performance characteristics.

Ability to hold Security Clearance – 5 years residence in the UK

What you’ll be doing:

  • Develop and maintain mathematical models to predict aircraft/drone performance characteristics including range, endurance, stability, and manoeuvrability
  • Create simulation environments for testing aircraft/drone behaviour under various operating conditions
  • Analyse flight test data to validate and refine performance models
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate performance models into the broader design process
  • Generate technical documentation and reports on performance analysis findings
  • Support design clearance processes by providing performance data and analysis
  • Develop and maintain tools for automated performance calculations and analysis

Essential Skills and Experiences:

  • Master’s degree in aerospace engineering or related field
  • Experience in aircraft or drone performance modelling
  • Strong understanding of aerodynamics, flight mechanics, and control systems
  • Proficiency in computational modelling software (e.g., MATLAB, Python)
  • Experience with CFD tools and analysis
  • Strong mathematical and analytical skills
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities

Desired Skills and Experiences:

  • PhD in Aerospace Engineering or related field
  • Knowledge of electric propulsion systems
  • Familiarity with flight test procedures and data analysis
