Compensation: GBP 110,000 - GBP 130,000 / year
Description At Field, we have developed Gaia, an automated energy trading platform. Since its deployment in November 2024 for our first physical asset in GB, we continually improve our algorithms. Over the coming years, Gaia will be deployed on more GB assets and across Europe (Germany, Italy, Spain).
You will be part of a small, dynamic team of certified power traders, influencing revenue growth. You will collaborate with platform engineers, data scientists, executives, and commercial teams.
This role requires flexibility in working hours and participation in an on-call rotation, as the energy market operates 24/7, 365 days a year, especially for emergency response and unplanned scenarios.
Key Responsibilities Develop algorithms for trading, forecasting, and revenue co-optimization across multiple markets
Manage live trading and physical assets, providing 24/7 support
Deploy and maintain mission-critical real-time software
Inform and override algorithms in volatile market conditions
Present trading results to senior management
Identify gaps in trading strategies through backtesting and competitor analysis, then improve them
Contribute to product roadmap development
Skills, Knowledge & Expertise A bit about you Prepared for an operational role involving power market trading, with flexibility for on-call duties
Effective communicator, capable of explaining complex concepts to technical and non-technical audiences
Autonomous, proactive, and positive approach to work
Enthusiastic about learning new and complex topics quickly
Candidates from backgrounds such as Trading, Data Science, Data Analytics, Operations Research, or related fields with at least 3 years of experience are encouraged to apply.
Essential Skills Experience with UK or European power markets
Development and deployment of algorithmic trading strategies
Data-driven decision making
Proficiency in Python for data analysis, visualization, and manipulation
Effective communication of complex topics
Strong knowledge of probability and statistics
Desirable Skills Additional expertise in the following areas is a plus:
European power markets (Germany, Italy, Spain)
Advanced numerical methods (time-series analysis, machine learning, linear programming, stochastic optimization)
Developing and maintaining mission-critical software
Operational environment experience
