We’re looking for a Senior Data Scientist to join our growing Data function here at ClearScore. Data plays a central role in what we do, from using insights derived from Open Banking and credit bureau data to help users to improve their credit scores and their finances, to helping our partners to manage credit risk and offer the best products to our users.

ClearScore has an amazing analytical community which includes Data Analysts, Scientists and Engineers. The community works collaboratively to ensure a landscape in which team members can develop their full potential and deliver maximum business impact. Working within D·One, our Open Banking Services business unit, you will be responsible for building products to help our lender clients derive maximum value from the Open Banking data we provide them.

What you will do
  • Your primary focus will be to help our clients understand the risk-splitting power of Open Banking data, and present this in an easy-to-understand and practically implementable way.
  • Maintenance of our existing data-science backed products and the development of new ones.
  • Contributing to the continuous improvement of our categorisation engine through developing new techniques to identify improvement areas and developing AI/ML driven tagging methodologies.
  • Play a key role in our sales process, working with our Operations and Sales leads to ensure prospective clients can easily test our data and find value in it prior to going live with our service.
  • Collaborating with our engineering and product teams to design and implement product features for our Open Banking Services platform.
  • Engaging with internal and external stakeholders, understanding their business needs and providing data-driven solutions. Build strong relationships with lending partners to ensure alignment with industry best practices.
You're a fit for the role if you present most of the following
  • Several years of experience in the credit risk space. Demonstrable experience of identifying risk-splitting power in data and implementing this to improve risk models.
  • Strong SQL and Python skills.
  • Worked within a cloud environment, ideally with Databricks (or BigQuery, Snowflake, Redshift).
  • Strong understanding of multiple Machine Learning (ML) techniques and their suitability under various scenarios.
  • Good knowledge and experience related to the end-to-end ML model building lifecycle, including feature engineering and model deployment.
  • You are excited about the power of data in decisioning and how it can empower stakeholders and clients.
  • You enjoy helping non-analysts to put data at the heart of what they do – ensuring your key stakeholders are informed and comfortable having conversations about our data and the products we’re creating.
  • Any experience working with Open Banking data would be a bonus.

Why Machine Learning Careers in the UK Are Becoming More Multidisciplinary

Machine learning (ML) has moved from research labs into mainstream UK businesses. From healthcare diagnostics to fraud detection, autonomous vehicles to recommendation engines, ML underpins critical services and consumer experiences. But the skillset required of today’s machine learning professionals is no longer purely technical. Employers increasingly seek multidisciplinary expertise: not only coding, algorithms & statistics, but also knowledge of law, ethics, psychology, linguistics & design. This article explores why UK machine learning careers are becoming more multidisciplinary, how these fields intersect with ML roles, and what both job-seekers & employers need to understand to succeed in a rapidly changing landscape.

Machine Learning Team Structures Explained: Who Does What in a Modern Machine Learning Department

Machine learning is now central to many advanced data-driven products and services across the UK. Whether you work in finance, healthcare, retail, autonomous vehicles, recommendation systems, robotics, or consumer applications, there’s a need for dedicated machine learning teams that can deliver models into production, maintain them, keep them secure, efficient, fair, and aligned with business objectives. If you’re hiring for or applying to ML roles via MachineLearningJobs.co.uk, this article will help you understand what roles are typically present in a mature machine learning department, how they collaborate through project lifecycles, what skills and qualifications UK employers look for, what the career paths and salaries are, current trends and challenges, and how to build an effective ML team.

Why the UK Could Be the World’s Next Machine Learning Jobs Hub

Machine learning (ML) is becoming essential to industries across the globe—from finance and healthcare to retail, logistics, defence, and the public sector. Its ability to uncover patterns in data, make predictions, drive automation, and increase operational efficiency has made it one of the most in-demand skill sets in the technology world. In the UK, machine learning roles—from engineers to researchers, product managers to analysts—are increasingly central to innovation. Universities are expanding ML programmes, enterprises are scaling ML deployments, and startups are offering applied ML solutions. All signs point toward a surging need for professionals skilled in modelling, algorithms, data pipelines, and AI systems. This article explores why the United Kingdom is exceptionally well positioned to become a global machine learning jobs hub. It examines the current landscape, strengths, career paths, sector-specific demand, challenges, and what must happen for this vision to become reality.
