Start date:ASAP

Location:Remote/Bristol/London. At the moment we are only able to accept candidates based in the UK.

Who are we?

Tumelo is a venture-backed, impact-led financial technology firm. We believe every investor should be empowered to use their shareholder voice to create change on issues like climate, gender and human rights at companies where their money is invested. Our mission is to build and scale the technology to make that possible.

We're a close-knit, fun and dynamic team. We champion autonomy and flexibility. We get stuck in and act strategically. We love food, rounders, board games... and having fun together, from canvas painting to our annual company offsite.

We aim to enable every institutional and retail investor to be an active owner of the companies their money is invested, breaking up the unbalanced influence of fund managers and returning power to true shareholders. Big change takes time but we are patient and ambitious in equal measure; influencing the system, building a movement, empowering the world.

The Role

This is an exceptional opportunity to get stuck in at a fast-paced, tech-focused, impact-driven start-up. 2. Implementing processes to test data validity, latency and coverage
  3. Building and maintaining software infrastructure for use across the company
  4. Monitoring, triaging and fixing issues alongside fellow Engineers
  5. Taking new ideas from inception through to implementation across our tech stack
  6. Mentoring other Engineers to help them achieve their full potential
  7. Contributing to the development of internal gRPC APIs & Go services
  8. Developing internal frontends written in React

Desirable experience:

These are desirable rather than essential criteria. We welcome applications from people who may not have all the listed criteria but who are willing to learn by doing.

  1. You have experience in the extraction, transformation and loading of data from a variety of sources such as SFTP, Email and APIs
  2. You have excellent proficiency in the use of Python or Go
  3. You have experience designing serverless architectures
  4. You have experience with IaC tooling (we use Terraform)
  5. You have experience designing APIs and working in a microservices environment
  6. You love automated testing and ensuring that test suites are comprehensive
  7. You definitely don't need finance experience but you must be willing to learn
  8. You are passionate about social or environmental issues

We are trying to build a team that can conquer every challenge, speak every language, and understand every user. We have an ambitious mission to change the world so we hope to lead by example with a diverse and inclusive team that reflects the world we want to see. For the time being, you must have the right to work in the UK.

What we offer:

  1. Competitive salary:up to £80k, dependent on experience.
  2. Private health insurance- via Equipsme, including 24/7 private GP access, dental, optical, and mental health support.
  3. Generous company share scheme:We are all owners of Tumelo and beneficiaries of our collective success.

  8. 33 days holiday:These include bank holidays, but you can take bank holidays off at your discretion, some of the team prefer to work those days and save the holiday for another time, and that’s fine by us!
  9. Flexible hours:We commit to being available to each other on slack/email between 10am and 3pm Monday – Friday (save for lunch), but outside of these hours you can work whenever you feel most productive.
  10. Tumfests:The team commit to gathering together for a full day at least once per month in Bristol or an off-site location. Travel costs are covered by the business.
  11. Hybrid working:We encourage staff to come into the office a few times a month to encourage collaboration but we’re flexible and pragmatic about this.

Working here, you'll grow more than you would anywhere else. You will join a team who will appreciate you every day and your contributions will genuinely change our business' future.

Veterans in Machine Learning: A Military‑to‑Civilian Pathway into AI Careers

Introduction Artificial intelligence is no longer relegated to sci‑fi films—it underpins battlefield decision‑support, fraud detection, and even supermarket logistics. The UK Government’s 2025 AI Sector Deal forecasts an additional £200 billion in GDP by 2030, with machine‑learning (ML) engineers cited as the nation’s second most in‑demand tech role (Tech Nation 2024). The Ministry of Defence’s Defence AI Strategy echoes that urgency, earmarking £1.6 billion for FY 2025–28 to embed ML into planning, logistics, and autonomous systems. If you have ever tuned a radar filter, plotted artillery trajectories, or sifted sensor data for actionable intel, you have already worked with statistical modelling—the backbone of machine learning. This guide shows UK veterans how to reframe military experience for ML roles, leverage MoD transition funding, and land high‑impact positions building the models shaping tomorrow’s defence and commercial landscapes. Rural-Remote Machine Learning Jobs: Finding Balance Beyond the Big Cities

Over the past decade, machine learning (ML) has transformed from a niche research domain into a pervasive technology underpinning everything from recommendation systems and voice assistants to financial forecasting and autonomous vehicles. Historically, the UK’s major tech hubs—particularly London—have been magnets for top ML talent and corporate headquarters. However, remote work has become mainstream, and many ML professionals are realising they can excel in their field while living far beyond the city limits. At MachineLearningJobs.co.uk, we’ve observed a growing interest in positions that allow for a rural lifestyle or a coastal environment, often reflected in search terms like “ML remote countryside” or “tech jobs by the sea.” This surge is no coincidence. Flexible work policies, better rural broadband, and the nature of machine learning tasks—much of which can be done through cloud platforms—are bringing new opportunities to those who wish to swap urban hustle for fresh air and scenic views. Whether you’re a data scientist, ML engineer, researcher, or product manager, a rural or seaside move could reinvigorate your work-life balance. In this article, we’ll unpack why rural-remote ML jobs are on the rise, how you can navigate the challenges of leaving the city, and what you need to do to thrive in a machine learning career beyond the M25. If you’ve dreamt of looking up from your laptop to rolling fields or ocean waves, keep reading—your rural ML role might be closer than you think.
