About us

We love pets - which is why we're on a mission to make the world a better place for pets and their parents. We offer pet insurance policies with generous pet health benefits that are designed with their needs in mind. We've helped half a million pets stay happy and healthy since 2017 - and many more customers throughout the world are joining us every day. Our company is respectful, fun-loving and (most importantly) passionate about pets and their wellbeing. Want to join our pack? Join us. Love every moment. Love ManyPets.

A day in the life

As Pricing Director, you will own the setting of prices and delivery of the required loss ratio for all ManyPets products in the UK. As part of our multi-functional team, you will support the growth and development of our Pet insurance book, monitor our performance, and take our analytics function to the next level. You will be working closely with the Underwriting, Reserving, Marketing, Product Development and Claims teams to ensure the delivery of commercial targets. You'll also be closely aligned with Data Science and Technology teams in our ever-evolving business.

This role is critical to the success of the business. There is significant opportunity to engage with all aspects of the business and to develop technical skills in data science, reserving and product development. The pricing team at ManyPets is small (but very functional!), and you will manage three direct reports out of the wider team of five.

Your responsibilities
  1. Own and set prices across all products at ManyPets to deliver business plans, working closely and in conjunction with the marketing team to deliver upon premium targets.
  2. Maintain market leading pricing models by developing price optimisation, machine learning models and new pricing techniques. Manage customer lifetime value pricing within pricing and develop this working closely with the marketing team.
  3. Strive to develop the best technical models possible, utilising data both internally and external to the group and embed regular tracking on ongoing performance.
  4. Define, own and develop the overall pricing strategy for ManyPets.
  5. Manage and develop the pricing team, helping the team add value to the wider organisation.
  6. Develop ongoing reporting to track pricing metrics and create new insight into ongoing performance for use within the team and wider group.
  7. Work closely with the data science team to help develop new models and insight.
  8. Communicate pricing outcomes effectively and on a regular basis to senior leadership and external partners (auditors, carriers) as required.
Compliance and Regulatory
  1. Ensure appropriate pricing governance and risk controls are in place.
  2. Maintain a strong price modelling framework and ensure process documentation is kept up to date and relevant.
  3. Manage and contribute to any auditor and carrier reviews related to pricing, ensuring all supplier (external and internal) agreed actions are tracked to completion.
  4. Ensure appropriate provisions are in place that ensure the integrity of compliance, in line with UK regulatory requirements.
Leadership
  1. Provide leadership and guidance that encourages both personal commitment and a high-performing team culture.
  2. Help your team to deliver actionable insight across the business, helping us react to ever-changing market conditions.
  3. Set individual objectives for your team - carrying out regular performance reviews to manage and implement personal development plans.
  4. Work with your team to provide regular informative updates to the team which maintain business awareness, performance and morale.
  5. Lead by example and role model our company values - inspiring others to do the same.
Your skills and experience
  1. You are a talented pricing specialist with a background in personal lines insurance.
  2. You have prior experience in managing a pricing team, with diverse ranges of skill levels.
  3. You are up to date with technical developments in the industry and have a good sense of best practice and knowledge of suitable pricing standards.
  4. You are detail focused, analytical and able to communicate outputs clearly and simply.
  5. You are confident in delivering pricing reviews and reviewing the quality of other analysts' work.
  6. You can create technical reports and build presentations for senior management and non-technical audiences.
  7. You have experience in one or more coding languages such as SQL, SAS, R or Python, plus advanced Excel skills, and experience in rating tools such as Earnix, Akur8 or WTW Radar.
  8. You are confident in building resilient stakeholder relationships through a partnered approach.
  9. You have detailed understanding of the dynamics of personal lines insurance, with pet insurance experience an advantage but not essential.
The interview process

This position has a three-step interview process, which will be held via Zoom. We may need you to sign an NDA as part of the process for this role.

  1. Stage 1 – you'll meet our Chief Underwriting Officer. This will be a shorter interview where we'll tell you more about the company and the role, probe your experiences and answer any questions you might have.
  2. Stage 2 – You'll meet our CUO again and we'll include another senior team member. We'll interview you on both technical and competency questions. We expect this meeting to last for up to an hour. We may ask you to present a response to a brief at this meeting.
  3. Stage 3 – if you or we feel we need an additional informal meeting before making a decision, we'll let you know.
Ways of working

On a typical day you'll be working from a laptop with a screen, mouse, keyboard, and headset. You'll be meeting your colleagues on Zoom and keeping in touch regularly via email and Slack too. We'd expect you to be using your computer for around seven hours a day. We'd ask that you have a distraction-free work area and a reliable internet connection with a speed of 25Mbps so you can work effectively. We'll make sure you have the right home set-up that supports you in the role by providing best-in-class technology, money towards a desk, and vision support.

Inclusion at ManyPets

We promise to give you the same opportunities as everyone else and we won't discriminate against you at any point in the process. This includes how we source talent, our interview process, our conditions of employment (including pay) and feedback.

Reasonable adjustments and support

If you need any help, support, or advice at any point during the hiring process please email . If you want to ask any questions or request an adjustment, please let us know and we'll do what we can to flex our approach.

How to Write a Machine Learning Job Ad That Attracts the Right People

Machine learning now sits at the heart of many UK organisations, powering everything from recommendation engines and fraud detection to forecasting, automation and decision support. As adoption grows, so does demand for skilled machine learning professionals. Yet many employers struggle to attract the right candidates. Machine learning job adverts often generate high volumes of applications, but few applicants have the blend of modelling skill, engineering awareness and real-world experience the role actually requires. Meanwhile, strong machine learning engineers and scientists quietly avoid adverts that feel vague, inflated or confused. In most cases, the issue is not the talent market — it is the job advert itself. Machine learning professionals are analytical, technically rigorous and highly selective. A poorly written job ad signals unclear expectations and low ML maturity. A well-written one signals credibility, focus and a serious approach to applied machine learning. This guide explains how to write a machine learning job ad that attracts the right people, improves applicant quality and strengthens your employer brand.

Maths for Machine Learning Jobs: The Only Topics You Actually Need (& How to Learn Them)

Machine learning job adverts in the UK love vague phrases like “strong maths” or “solid fundamentals”. That can make the whole field feel gatekept especially if you are a career changer or a student who has not touched maths since A level. Here is the practical truth. For most roles on MachineLearningJobs.co.uk such as Machine Learning Engineer, Applied Scientist, Data Scientist, NLP Engineer, Computer Vision Engineer or MLOps Engineer with modelling responsibilities the maths you actually use is concentrated in four areas: Linear algebra essentials (vectors, matrices, projections, PCA intuition) Probability & statistics (uncertainty, metrics, sampling, base rates) Calculus essentials (derivatives, chain rule, gradients, backprop intuition) Basic optimisation (loss functions, gradient descent, regularisation, tuning) If you can do those four things well you can build models, debug training, evaluate properly, explain trade-offs & sound credible in interviews. This guide gives you a clear scope plus a six-week learning plan, portfolio projects & resources so you can learn with momentum rather than drowning in theory.

Neurodiversity in Machine Learning Careers: Turning Different Thinking into a Superpower

Machine learning is about more than just models & metrics. It’s about spotting patterns others miss, asking better questions, challenging assumptions & building systems that work reliably in the real world. That makes it a natural home for many neurodivergent people. If you live with ADHD, autism or dyslexia, you may have been told your brain is “too distracted”, “too literal” or “too disorganised” for a technical career. In reality, many of the traits that can make school or traditional offices hard are exactly the traits that make for excellent ML engineers, applied scientists & MLOps specialists. This guide is written for neurodivergent ML job seekers in the UK. We’ll explore: What neurodiversity means in a machine learning context How ADHD, autism & dyslexia strengths map to ML roles Practical workplace adjustments you can ask for under UK law How to talk about neurodivergence in applications & interviews By the end, you’ll have a clearer sense of where you might thrive in ML – & how to turn “different thinking” into a genuine career advantage.
