We are currently seeking an enthusiastic, data-driven and passionate GIS expert to join our Data team as a Lead GIS and Geospatial Data Analyst.


You will be joining a new and growing team of data specialists, with a big commitment and drive to implement data standards, improve data quality and bring data to life for the council.


The team are currently delivering several exciting and high-profile projects, bringing people and data together, linking critical data sets to give a holistic view of our residents and the businesses we work with.


As a Lead GIS and Geospatial Data Analyst, you will lead the development and implementation of enterprise GIS infrastructure, data management, and analysis functions so that the council can fully understand, link and view our geospatial data, maximising the benefits for our residents and service areas.


You will define and implement standards and formats for geospatial data and metadata, maintaining a metadata repository for our geospatial data assets, developing and implementing a robust geospatial data flow from various applications into our main data warehouse using ETL tools, support data owners to maintain their data at high quality and be instrumental to the development of visualisation and analysis data products.


This role is fixed term for 2 years with an option to extend.


About you:

Do you have:



  • Extensive experience of managing geospatial data across varied domains such as highways, environment, public protection, utilities, land management, and planning, with a focus on enterprise-scale implementation and stakeholder engagement.
  • Extensive experience in designing, building, testing and maintaining of geospatial data pipelines, including automated ETL processes,
  • The ability to integrate diverse data sources into cloud-hosted spatial data warehouses.
  • Extensive experience of working with national and local geographic datasets including Ordnance Survey, Office for National Statistics, Local Land and Property and National Street Gazetteers.
  • Significant experience of working with multidisciplinary teams to gather user requirements for geospatial data and apply them to the design of data products to support service delivery.
  • Advanced knowledge of spatial databases (especially PostgreSQL/ PostGIS), data modelling, and cloud-based data architecture.
  • Courage to think outside the box and find solutions where others may see a barrier.
