JOB TITLE: Lead Data Engineer - Enterprise Data Provisioning
SALARY: £90,440 - £106,400 per annum
LOCATIONS: Bristol or Manchester
HOURS: Full-time
WORKING PATTERN: Our work style is hybrid, which involves spending at least two days per week, or 40% of our time, at one of our office sites


A great opportunity has arisen for a Lead Data Engineer to join our engineering team and build data products in the Cloud that impact 26 million customers.


Working in the Enterprise Data Provisioning Platform, you can help shape the Group's ambition by enabling the bank to gain value from data by providing safe and efficient Group wide data capabilities and services. With several lab teams collaborating on various features, data is key to our strategy and at the centre of our investment programme.

About this opportunity

Data is one of our key assets. In a world of Big Data, Data Engineers are fundamental to unlocking safe, timely, scalable, and controlled access to it at enterprise scale. This is an opportunity to be a part of our journey to transform how the UK's largest bank handles its data at scale.


You’ll be responsible for producing / curating (designing, developing, moving, transforming, testing, and maintaining) Data Products. This enables consumers to ingest, transform, store, and analyse our data to gain insight and drive value for our customers, regulators, shareholders and colleagues.


You’ll be expected to draw on both your Data and Engineering expertise to build Data Products using modern technologies. A strong background in Data as well as Technology is a consistent characteristic of great practitioners who make an impact in this role.


Day to day, you will :

  • Design, develop, and maintain complex Data Products while applying DevOps practices
  • Lead implementation reviews and all aspects of data product delivery
  • Evaluate and recommend tools, technologies, and processes
  • Identify and implement best practices for data engineering
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to engineers
  • Have a strong understanding of data security principles and secure architectural practices
  • Provide knowledge of DevOps practices and CI/CD pipelines
  • Ensure timely delivery by managing tasks and priorities effectively
  • Communicate effectively with team and stakeholders
  • Accountable for custodianship governance activities on data assets

What you'll need:

  • Line Management experience of small teams
  • Experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP) and its underlying data engineering services
  • Familiarity with DevOps practices and tools, including CI/CD pipelines and containerisation (Docker, Kubernetes)
  • Data Engineering: Developing data validation methodology and data hub process models
  • Data Literacy: Communicating with data confidently and effectively
  • Data Modelling and Design

And any experience of these would be really useful:

  • Familiarity with cloud platforms such as Azure or AWS, and their underlying data engineering services
  • Experience with Machine Learning (ML) or Agentic AI
  • Experience with SQL and data warehouse technology such as BigQuery
  • Familiarity with data visualisation tools such as Tableau, Power BI, or Looker
  • Relevant certifications in data engineering, Google Cloud Platforms (GCP), or related areas
