  • Location:             Sheffield (This is a hybrid role with a minimum of 3 days per week in the office) 

The South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority (SYMCA) brings together the local authorities of Barnsley, Doncaster, Rotherham and Sheffield and to serve the communities and businesses of South Yorkshire.  From transport to housing, from business growth to skills, the MCA has a great story to tell. This is a unique opportunity to lead the analytical work that will underpin our region’s commitment to Vision Zero – ending deaths and serious injuries on South Yorkshire’s roads.


As part of our central Insight Team, you’ll work closely with the South Yorkshire Safer Roads Partnership, which includes SYMCA, Barnsley Metropolitan Borough Council, City of Doncaster Council, Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council, Sheffield City Council, South Yorkshire Police, South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue, and National Highways. Together, we’re building a data-driven approach to road safety that puts evidence at the heart of decision-making.

As part of our central Insight Team, you’ll work closely with the South Yorkshire Safer Roads Partnership, which includes SYMCA, Barnsley Metropolitan Borough Council, City of Doncaster Council, Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council, Sheffield City Council, South Yorkshire Police, South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue, and National Highways. Together, we’re building a data-driven approach to road safety that puts evidence at the heart of decision-making.



About the Role


You’ll lead on analysing road traffic collision data, developing new Safety Performance Indicators and supporting the evaluation of road safety interventions. Your insights will inform strategic decisions and help shape interventions that save lives. This is a role for someone who thrives on collaboration, innovation, and impact. You’ll be working with senior leaders across the partnership, managing commissioned research projects, and developing interactive visualisations and reports that bring data to life.


What You’ll Be Doing

  • Leading analytical work to support the Safer Roads Partnership’s strategic goals.
  • Collaborating with partners to gather and cleanse data from diverse sources.
  • Applying advanced quantitative techniques to generate actionable insights.
  • Creating engaging visualisations to communicate findings.
  • Supporting the development of performance frameworks and reporting plans.
  • Acting as an intelligent client for commissioned research projects.


Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

We’re seeking someone who is:

  • Highly skilled in statistical analysis and data visualisation (e.g. Power BI, Tableau).
  • Experienced in managing complex projects and working with external consultants.
  • Knowledgeable in data governance, ethical research, and data protection.
  • A confident communicator, able to present complex insights to senior stakeholders.
  • Collaborative and committed to making a difference through evidence-based policy.
  • Familiar with GIS software and qualitative research methods (desirable).
