Our client’s vision is to be the most loved, progressive and responsible way to travel for generations to come.
As Head of Data and Business Intelligence you will lead the Business Intelligence function, drive innovation through data, introduce new ways of using data for economic value, improving performance, and customer experience both on and off the trains. You will drive the increase in data literacy and skills across the organisation and embed analytics and reporting within all departments all within sound governance practices. You will develop and lead the Business Intelligence strategy which will transform the businesses approach to data and reporting and ensure data driven decision-making.
Within this role you will be responsible for creating a central Business Intelligence team to act as an inhouse consultancy-style service to the business for data, analysis, and reporting, ensuring they provide clear, accurate and usable insight to the rest of the business.
You will also lead and oversee the development and implementation of their Data strategy, aligning data initiatives with overall business goals and ensuring that data assets are effectively managed, and maximum value created from them.
Our client has now got a machine learning team using AWS and more, a full analytics team using Alteryx and Tableau, live train performance data, an AWS data lake, and we continue to invest in business wide systems to enable data driven decisions.
It's your chance to develop this to its full potential inside an organisation that believes in transformation.
You'll also;

  • Develop an operating model which allows the organisation to better utilise high-quality data and information for insight and service improvement.
  • Increase productivity by working alongside the team embedding process automation (RPA) and analytical tools in departments across the company
  • Set guidelines for usage of data and extracting value.
  • Work with the teams to help develop their usage and technical strategies for data across the business.
  • Work with architects and others to suggest new tech and techniques and lead delivery of them.
  • Chair the Data Centre of Excellence
  • Proactively identify opportunities to increase revenue, drive down costs or embed process efficiencies across the company
  • Deliver innovative solutions to solve business problems using data and platforms.
  • Refresh and deliver on the data strategy and act as Data Owner, liaising with DfT and other industry groups on all data related matters.
  • Build relationships with managers to develop a data-driven culture within the organisation, exploring opportunities to improve the use of data through new technologies and techniques such as big data, ML, AI and real time data.
  • Oversee the collection, management, and safe storage of data.
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with other executives.
  • Be a key driver of enterprise digital transformation and innovation.
    What you'll need:
We are looking for someone who has previously worked within management and leadership roles and has proven experience in the creation and successful deployment of data strategy across organisations. We'll also require:
  • A highly adept and persuasive communicator, with the ability to present and articulate complex matters in a simple and effective way to a range of stakeholders, with differing levels of experience with data, to gain buy-in and commitment across complex organisations.
  • Significant experience within management and leadership roles; directing, developing, and motivating teams in a complex, changing and often regulated environment.
  • Extensive experience in leading quantitative analysis, with excellent Excel skills and a working knowledge of analytical tools such as Tableau, Power BI or Qlik.
  • Experience of using data processing tools such as AWS, ML, Redshift, Alteryx, AWS Glue, SQL Coding or Python.
  • Strong written skills and the ability to produce output across Word and PowerPoint that is suitable for a senior audience.
  • Proven experience of delivering large cross-functional data projects in corporate settings including people, process, and technology changes.
  • Strong collaborative skills to ensure that key stakeholders in data work to deliver a data strategy that drives a data-enabled business.
