An opportunity has arisen for a motivated and enthusiastic Band 5 Registered Nurse to join our small, highly trained clinical team at the North Middlesex University Hospital gynaecology, and Women's ambulatory day unit/Early pregnancy unit.

The post holder will have the responsibility for the assessment of patient care needs and the development and/or the implementation and evaluation of programmes of patient care. 

Carry out pathways of care under supervision and, when proficient, demonstrate procedures of care; supervise junior and/or unqualified staff including student nurses and health care support workers. 

As part of managerial and clinical development, under supervision, take charge of the team/ward whilst undertaking a variable shift pattern as directed by the senior nurse to satisfy the needs of the service. Maintain clinical study and undertake further personal and professional development in line with Trust policies.

Please note this post is 30 hours a week in an out patients unit, shifts are 8am to 8pm 3 shifts per week. Unit open Monday to Sunday 8am-8pm.

Introduction to the department

Working in a busy women Ambulatory Day Unit with 5 consulting rooms of which 2 are have scanning machine for the nurse Sonographer and doctors use. You will have excellent communication skills and able to develop excellent team working. You will be part of a team delivering high quality care to women of different age groups from a diverse population with different needs.

Main duties of the job

Clinical Duties:

Assess patient care needs and implementation of programmes of patient care, in particular the development of day care hyperemesis treatment, and participate in the evaluation of these.

Carry out all relevant forms of care to designated patients and be able to supervise learner nurses and Health Care Support Workers.

Care and control of medication and controlled drugs used for patient care, being aware of the systems used for safe administration, the ordering and maintenance of stock.

Ensure work with the Trust/unit and ward policies in order to maintain professional, clinical and patient safety.

Liaise closely with the North Mid at Home team to inform them of women attending the Woman’s Ambulatory Day Unit with hyperemesis that fit the criteria to receive ongoing treatment in their own homes from the North Mid at home team.

Acquire the knowledge and expertise to take appropriate action in emergency situations and for personally attending the mandatory/compulsory update sessions.

Cover other areas of gynae outpatients as required.

Have the in-depth knowledge with practical experience of good hand hygiene and environmental cleaning in conjunction with North Middlesex University Hospital trust policies and procedures.

Be an expert in Colposcopy and hysteroscopy knowledge to provide advice and support to other professionals and external agencies.

Guidelines for Record Keeping.

In consultation with the Lead Nurse, participate in departmental audit, demonstrate an awareness and application of research findings to deliver evidence-based care.

Provides appropriate support to others to improve their knowledge and understanding and shares own knowledge, skills, and experience with others during induction and training sessions for staff.

Assist the Lead Nurse in developing a culture where openness and a positive approach to learning, change management and continuous professional development are attained.

Be up to date with all mandatory training.

Ensure annual appraisal is done on time and participate in assisting junior members of staff in maintaining appraisals.

May deal with blood and body fluids.
