Job Purpose:
The Data Engineering Lead implements the strategy for Data Engineering aligned to the Data Strategy in ODEON Cinemas Group (OCG), overseeing activities required in the delivery and maintenance of quality data to support our Data Analyst communities. This includes the development, operation, and maintenance of data pipelines to extract, load and transform data sources from both internal and external providers. The role is also responsible for ensuring data quality is monitored and maintained effectively. This role will also manage the technical demand pipeline for new data feeds and products and coordinate a data engineering plan with the team.
Key Accountabilities:
Oversight of the activities required to deliver and maintain agreed Data Products to support the Data Analyst communities across ODEON Cinema Group (OCG). Responsible for the development, operation and maintenance of data pipelines to extract, load and transform data sources from both internal and external / third-party providers. Working with OCG IT Architecture establish standard technology patterns and frameworks for data ingestion and transformation. Drive standardisation, simplification and efficiency of the Data Engineering processes. Working with Heads of Data and Analytics throughout the group to understand and prioritise demand for the Data Engineering team. Ownership of the operating model for ensuring good quality data is delivered on a day-to-day basis, including clear communication to data users during incidents. Direct management of a central team of Data Engineers and indirect management of Data Engineers embedded with the local Data Analytics teams. Provide leadership, coaching and mentoring to the data engineering team. Share technical knowledge, experience and thought leadership with Data and Analytics teams across OCG. Embed processes, OCG toolsets and required skillsets, to support business growth and increasing IT Data engineering maturity. Provide consultancy to business Data Analyst teams regarding the complexity and feasibility of onboarding new data sources and building new Data Products. Working with business stakeholders and the data architecture function establish and be the custodian of a Data Catalogue providing ease of data discovery, business data glossary, supporting data governance and articulating current data usage and lineage. Establish metrics for assessing and measuring data quality and build approaches to maintain data quality to the agreed level. Regular reporting of progress and issues to senior stakeholders. The creation of strong internal collaborative relationships with all functions especially the data and analytics teams is essential.
Key Skills:
Proven experience in leading, prioritising, implementing, and managing Data Engineering activities across multiple data products and pipelines. Previous experience in a team leadership position and experience of managing demand and people through significant technology change would be an advantage. Experience in monitoring, measuring, and maintaining data quality, including knowledge of test approaches for automated data pipelines. Strong Experience in modern analytics and big data architectures in an Azure environment with a focus on Azure Data Lake, Databricks, Azure Data Factory and Power BI architectures. Experience in using a wide range of data ingestion approaches. Can deliver complex big data solutions with structured and unstructured data. Experience with SQL, Python and Spark, ideally as implemented on Databricks. Experience with operational management of working data pipelines, including troubleshooting, communication and collaboration with stakeholders. Experience with version control and CI/CD in the data engineering context, ideally using git and Azure DevOps. Ability to work using Agile to deliver regular releases and improvements to users. Great communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work with stakeholders at all levels.
