Are you a strategic data leader with deep expertise in Azure, Databricks, and Power BI? Join our Enterprise Data Analytics team and help drive Charles River Laboratories’ digital transformation to accelerate the development of life-saving therapies.

As the Director of Data Engineering, you’ll lead a high-performing team (5–7 direct reports) responsible for building, scaling, and optimizing our enterprise data platforms. Working fully remotely, you’ll design strategies and solutions that enable actionable insights across our global organization.


What You’ll Do

  • Develop and execute the enterprise data engineering strategy aligned with business goals.
  • Architect and oversee scalable, secure data platforms using Microsoft Azure (Data Factory, Databricks, Data Lake, Event Hubs).
  • Lead the design and implementation of data pipelines supporting large-scale ingestion, transformation, and real-time analytics.
  • Build and mentor a team of skilled engineers, fostering a culture of innovation and collaboration.
  • Partner with Data Science, Analytics, and IT to deliver integrated data products and dashboards using Power BI and semantic models.
  • Champion best practices for data governance, compliance, and operational excellence.


What You’ll Bring

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, or related field.
  • Proven experience leading and scaling high-performing data engineering teams.
  • Strong knowledge of Azure Data Stack, Databricks, ETL/ELT pipelines, and data warehousing.
  • Expertise in database architecture, SQL, and data modeling.
  • Experience with enterprise platforms such as Salesforce or SAP.
  • Agile or iterative project management experience.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.

Preferred:

  • Azure or Databricks certifications (e.g., Azure Data Engineer Associate, Professional Data Engineer).
  • Experience in regulated industries (healthcare, life sciences, or financial services).
