Data Modeller - BESS CheshireKomak Renewables is working on behalf of a rapidly growing battery energy storage business to find a highly motivated and experienced Data Scientist/Modeller with a focus on battery storage systems. In this pivotal role, you will contribute significantly to the advancement of energy storage projects, by analysing data, developing predictive models, and optimising battery performance and usage. The position requires close collaboration with cross-functional teams to integrate data-driven insights into strategic decision-making, influencing the future of sustainable energy in the UK. A key aspect of the role will be focused on the revenue stack and trading models in the UK market. The data and tools you create will be critical to the business case offering presented to clients.Key Responsibilities:Data Analysis & Modelling: Develop advanced models to predict battery performance, degradation, and lifecycle. Use mathematical techniques to optimise Battery Management Systems (BMS) for energy storage applications. Create simulation models for various battery sizes, linked to different business cases.Performance Optimisation: Develop algorithms that maximise energy storage efficiency, cost savings, and grid flexibility. Model the integration of battery storage with renewable energy sources (e.g., solar, wind) to optimise energy flows and grid resilience. Utilise predictive analytics to forecast energy demand, supply, and potential battery storage deployment based on market conditions and weather data.Collaboration & Reporting: Present technical findings, reports, and visualisations to non-technical audiences, including senior management and external partners. Produce outputs for tendering and business cases.Data Management & Infrastructure: Develop and maintain data pipelines and infrastructure to support the collection, processing, and analysis of large datasets from battery systems. Ensure data integrity, accuracy, and security in all models and analyses. Stay informed of the latest advancements in battery technology, data science, and energy storage markets.Key Skills & Experience Required:Industry Knowledge: Experience in energy storage, renewable energy, or related sectors. Familiarity with UK energy markets (BESS revenue stack), grid regulations, and sustainability practices.Educational Background: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Engineering, Physics, Applied Mathematics, or a related field.Technical Skills: Strong expertise in statistical analysis and modelling, proficiency in programming languages, and experience with data visualisation tools and data management platforms. A deep understanding of energy systems, grid infrastructure, and battery storage technologies is essential, along with knowledge of battery chemistries, degradation mechanisms, and energy management systems.
