As a Data Scientist in the Customer and Digital Analytics team, you will investigate, define, develop and deliver innovative, solutions to complex business problems using the latest techniques.

This role will focus significantly across our digital channels, developing advanced user recognition and personalisation through the customer journey that drives increased conversion and sales value.

You will operate at all stages of the development lifecycle from idea generation to testing, implementation and ensuring business value across different business areas and markets. With the support of more senior data scientists and MLOps engineers, you will ensure that solutions are rigorously tested, deliver business value and are then optimised over their lifecycle. We expect solutions to make use of efficient algorithms whilst enabling high levels of decision-making transparency and user control.

About The Job

Investigate and understand complex data sets, combining strong business area understanding with advanced statistical techniques, to extract critical meaning and strategic insight.
Work on areas ranging from customer segmentation, identity mapping, recommendations and advanced personalisation to natural language processing, marketing attribution and campaign optimisation.
Support the development of solutions to scale well, meeting non-functional requirements around high volume, high concurrency, low latency needs.
Monitor performance, propose improvements and implement well-planned A/B/n tests, trials and releases to drive continuous improvement. Help ensure that business KPIs, notably click-throughs, conversion metrics, revenue & margin targets are delivered successfully.
Work within project and feature teams containing a range of different specialist roles and operating across multiple markets to jointly create and operate sophisticated data science analytics features.
Produce clear communication to explain problems and activity to a variety of partners, from IT technical specialists to data and analytics experts and general business owners. Be able to use data story telling techniques to create engagement and buy-in.
Pro-actively maintain and develop knowledge of technical and analytic data science skills, and stay up-to-date with new developments within data science and the relevant business area.

About You

Bachelor’s or Master’s in a quantitative discipline (Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Physics, Marketing Analytics, Economics, Psychology, etc.) with a data-science / machine-learning component — or equivalent hands-on experience.
Confident programmer in Python and SQL; able to turn code into production-ready solutions, and exposure to GitHub, AWS Sagemaker.
Exposure to building personalisation & recommendation systems and developing propensity models
Experience creating customer / behavioural segmentation models.
Understanding of model evaluation and testing processes, such as A/B testing and multi-armed bandits.
Some practical experience of cloud-based data processing: AWS (ideally), GCP (useful), Snowflake
Some experience or knowledge of working with real-time data, and serving models in real-time
A track record of driving business value with sophisticated data science solutions
Excellent communication skills and the ability to break down complex problems to practical solutions that can be implemented in an agile manner
