Hi, we’re Bloom & Wild. We don’t just send flowers. We help our customers to care wildly. Caring wildly is celebrating the little things we all do for each other every day. Not just the big occasions. It’s being there for the highs. Stepping up for the lows.We care wildly about people and our planet. Which is why we’re so proud to be a certified B Corp™ – committed to making long-term positive change for our community, and the world around us.Founded in 2013, our mission back then was to make sending and receiving flowers the joy that it should be, by harnessing technology, brand and letterbox delivery. We announced £75 million Series D funding in 2021 and that same year acquired bloomon in The Netherlands and Bergamotte in France. Together, we’ve fulfilled and delivered over 20 million orders (and counting!), making us the largest direct to consumer flower business in Europe. Now home to a family of 3 beautiful brands, we’re driven by our vision to create the destination for making life a little more thoughtful and beautiful. And we won't stop at flowers and plants. Starting with the Bloom & Wild brand, we're expanding our gifting offering to other categories like cakes, candles and cocktails. This is all part of our ambition to build Europe's #1 direct to consumer gifting destination.⚙️Data Science at Bloom & WildYou will be joining a small data science team, currently consisting of 2 data scientists within an overall Bloom & Wild team of over 350 people and growing! We are a small, driven team that are set in expanding usage of data science across Bloom & Wild. We collaborate closely with the data engineering and product teams, the rest of the technology team, a separate business intelligence and analytics team, our CRM and operations teams to help us identify areas of opportunities and bring our projects to life. With millions of customers and hundreds of thousands of monthly transactions, we have a large and growing dataset that we use for training machine learning models. We currently have models in production, from recommendation to forecasting engines, and a backlog of ideas to brainstorm, prototype and test.In terms of technologies: Python, Snowflake, dbt, Fargate/ECS on AWS are part of our day to day. The data team is based in the UK and works in a flexible model, with choice in how often they travel to the office. At Bloom & Wild, squads meet in person at least once per quarter in order to maintain connections, collaborate on larger projects and have fun together. You can read lots more about our technology stack and our culture over on our tech blog -

💻 What you’ll be doing

On a typical day for the data science team, we sync in the morning during stand-ups to discuss the on-going work, identify blockers or areas of collaboration. During the day, we will be brainstorming and prototyping models to solve specific business problems. Or supporting the design of A/B to test our prototypes and productionise those once we decide that is the way forward. Or we can be collaborating with teams to gain better understanding of business domain, data or requirements. Have a critical role in training and productionising our machine learning models such as ranking models, recommendation algorithms and forecasting methods. Be collaborating with other data scientists, product managers and other teams to brainstorm best approaches for solving the problems at hand, being them product-related or with our infrastructure. Help design experimentations to test our ideas and prove incremental improvements to our models. Advise on how to collect data to provide datasets for future data science projects. Deliver ML models with agreed organisational standards to ensure that our capabilities are resilient, scalable and future-proof. Improve our MLOps infrastructure. Bring energy and positivity to the role, looking for every opportunity to learn and craft the role around our values: care wildly; think deeply, act swiftly; stay open, be curious; lead change for good.

✅ You’ll love this role if you… (What excites us)

Have demonstrable experience applying machine learning techniques to solve customer and business problems. Have strong programming skills in Python for delivering production-ready, well-structured and documented code. Experience with large datasets and proficiency with SQL, exposure to snowflake and dbt is a plus. Are curious about the customer and have a pragmatic approach to solve for their needs. Take a collaborative, data-driven and experimental approach to solving complex problems at pace and with pragmatism, and are able to demonstrate the ability to foster this mindset in your colleagues. Have a positive and optimistic attitude - you overcome setbacks and obstacles, and inspire and motivate those around you too. Have a collaborative style that enables you to work with a range of different people and teams and allows for open and inclusive discussion. Are keen to learn and stay up-to-date with the latest technologies and value sharing your knowledge with your peers.

It would be great if you also have...Experience working on an e-commerce site or in a fast-growing (preferably consumer-facing) start-up. Knowledge of MLOps or have an inclination to learn and develop in that area. These are some of the skills and experience we think will enable success in this role, but please don’t worry if you are missing some of these. We’re committed to building a team made up of different strengths, skills and experiences, so if you’re excited about our values, passionate about what you do and would like to join us in doing things more thoughtfully, we’d love to hear from you.We know that we learn through our differences, and building a diverse team has always been central to creating the best experience for our customers.
