Join Equans, a leading energies and services contractor and a proud member of the global industrial group, Bouygues. With a rich history of excellence in designing, constructing, and maintaining buildings and critical infrastructure worldwide, we are now offering an exciting opportunity for a Data Scientist on a 12 month fixed term basis within our Digital & Energy Services central functions team. This role will be based out of our Central London office but on a hybrid basis.


Role overview

We are looking for a hands-on Data Scientist to join our Digital & Energy Services (DES) team. In this role, you will be actively involved in building data products, performing analysis, and developing models that directly support business operations and performance across the division. This role will be Fixed term to Perm after the fixed term has ended.


This is a technical, delivery-focused position ideal for someone who enjoys solving practical problems with data, working directly with stakeholders, and getting involved in all stages of the data lifecyclefrom collection and cleaning to analysis, modelling, and reporting.

Key activities

Data Analysis & Modelling

Build and deploy machine learning models and statistical tools to support forecasting, operational performance, and productivity analysis.


Perform data analysis to uncover trends, patterns, and opportunities for improvement.
Run A/B tests and design experiments to evaluate the outcomes of business initiatives.

Data Preparation & Engineering

Collect and clean data from various sources such as databases, files, APIs, and CAFM systems.


Prepare datasets for analysis and modelling using Python, SQL, or similar tools.
Work closely with data engineers to troubleshoot issues and support the development of automated data pipelines.

Business Intelligence & Reporting

Create, maintain and develop reports and dashboards using Power BI, Palantir, or similar tools.


Convert analytical results into clear visuals and summaries for stakeholders.
Provide regular data updates and ad hoc reports to support business needs.

Collaboration & Continuous Improvement

Work closely with teams in operations, SHEQ, finance, and digital to understand their data needs and deliver insights.


Stay current with new tools, techniques, and trends in data science and analytics.
Suggest improvements to existing workflows, models, and reporting frameworks.

Skills, qualifications & experience

Bachelors degree in a quantitative discipline (e.g., Data Science, Statistics, Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics).


Solid experience covering Data Science, Machine Learning, or advanced analytics role.
Proficiency in Python and/or R for statistical modelling and machine learning.
Strong knowledge of SQL for querying and managing large datasets.
Experience with ML libraries such as scikit-learn, XGBoost, TensorFlow, or similar.
Solid foundation in statistical modelling, hypothesis testing, and experimental design.
Ability to communicate technical findings clearly and effectively to non-technical audiences.
