Job Description

Purpose for the Job:

To play a pivotal role in enhancing the performance, reliability, and profitability of our renewable energy assets. To leverage advanced analytics, machine learning, and data visualization techniques by driving data-driven strategies to optimize operations (and maintenance), forecast performance, and support strategic decision-making aligned with our goals.

To work in close interface with Commercial Team supporting overall development of a data platform for Masdar’s London managed projects with a key ambition to set up a BESS Operations Control Desk. This desk will be responsible for the monitoring, analysis & scheduling of all assets and act as the key interface between all stakeholders (Masdar, O&M contractors, DNO, OEM and Optimiser). The Data Scientist will play a pivotal role in enabling this.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Work in cooperation with Commercial team on development of Data Platform.
  • Integrate asset data into the platform and build new visualization and management tools.
  • Integrate all BESS data (financial and technical) and develop Asset Management tools and dashboards.
  • Document control management.

Collaborate with the Masdar Control Desk to identify key performance indicators (KPIs) and areas for improvement:

  • Support the Control Desk in their data and analysis needs to optimise battery availability and state of health.
  • Creation and continued refinement of key dashboard tools used for portfolio management.
  • Automate Battery scheduling and technical reporting
  • Work with our cyber security partners to enhance protection of both our assets and data platform.
  • Support on work to implement our BESS Cyber Security Policy, and Cyber Security in OFSW as appropriate
  • Support on progressing towards full CAF and ENA DER Compliance.

Asset Management data analysis and performance optimisation:

  • Provide data-driven recommendations to enhance asset efficiency, reduce asset downtime and maximize commercial performance.
  • Create intuitive dashboards and visualizations to communicate insights to stakeholders, including the asset management and commercial team.
  • Prepare detailed reports and presentations to support operational and strategic decisions.

Data Maintenance:

  • Collect, clean, and process large datasets from various sources, including SCADA systems, IoT devices, and historical records. 
  • Ensure data integrity, consistency, and availability for analysis and reporting.

Comply with information security policies, procedures and requirements at all times:

  • Adhere to any applicable Masdar information security policies and procedures and identify and report security incidents and suspected weaknesses to the appropriate point(s) of contact.
  • Protect assets under care (e.g. laptops and other devices) and information/credentials against unauthorized access, sharing, and/or damage/loss, in accordance with the Information Classification and Handling Procedure.
  • Clear desks of all sensitive material and log off/ lock workstations at the end of the day and when leaving desk for a prolonged period in accordance with Acceptable Usage Policies. • Ensure not installing, copying or modifying of any software on Masdar equipment without authorization.


Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE, & SKILLS

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in data science, Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field.

Preferred Experience:

  • Experience with data visualization tools like Tableau, Power BI, or similar.
  • Strong knowledge of time-series analysis, predictive modelling, and machine learning techniques.
  • Familiarity with database management systems (e.g., SQL) and cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure).

Job-Specific Skills: 

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills. 
  • Ability to translate complex data insights into actionable business recommendations.
  • Proactive mindset with a passion for renewable energy and sustainability.
  • A team player and attention to detail
