Job summary

The role focuses on the application of the advanced statistics methods and complex quantitative analysis required to help stakeholders characterise the issues they face, the options they have, or to evaluate the impact of changes made. This requires the potholder to understand why analysis is being undertaken, how the outputs are intended to be used, as well as helping to define how we should undertake the particular method of analysis.

This role requires a clear thinking and methodical approach with strong quantitative and analytical skills. The post will involve working with multiple data sources including the Discover dataset.

The role of Data Scientist is to support parts of this type of complex change by bringing a breadth of statistical and analytical skills. The role also interfaces with others who play key roles in helping to design projects and products for stakeholders and clients.

The role includes active participation in the development and culture of ICHP as an organisation, sharing responsibility for making ICHP a great place to work. Applicants will be able to demonstrate behaviours that live our organisational values of collaboration, courage, quality, and impact.

Main duties of the job

Create statistical models using patient level data from the real-world linked datasets Discover dataset.

Project management responsibility involving regular meetings with clients, ensuring work is delivered on time and to standard. Supporting the development of improved performance and service delivery

Using strong persuasion skills to influence senior managers and board members of importance of initiatives which contain very sensitive information

Developing posters, abstracts and manuscripts for peer-reviewed journals

Qualifications

Essential

Undergraduate qualification (1st or 2:1) or equivalent experience in a quantitative discipline, ideally with significant exposure to advanced statistical concepts Masters qualification in a quantitative discipline with significant exposure to advanced statistics and data science concepts

Knowledge and experience

Essential

Proven experience with Python, R and /or another data science programming language (SAS, Stata etc). Experience in applying statistical / econometric methods to address real world problems Experience using large survey or administrative datasets Knowledge health research methods and systems thinking

Desirable

Knowledge of epidemiology / biostatistics, particularly analytical issues relating to studies of treatment effectiveness, disease progression, adherence, healthcare utilisation, etc. Experience in writing complex SQL queries Previous experience of using Discover/WSIC database Experience in building and deploying machine learning models Overview knowledge and understanding of the NHS, including the funding and organizational realities Experience in delivering complex healthcare-related analysis within projects and programmes, and working alongside senior clinical and operational professionals
