What this role matters

At Accurx, we are making a giant leap from simply describing what\u2019s happened to actively defining what we do next. By the end of 2025, data won\u2019t just support decisions; it will be at the heart of our strategy, sparking innovation and empowering every team to learn faster, act sooner, and create value more confidently.

As our Data Science / ML Lead, you will be the key driver of this transformation within the data team. You\u2019ll move us beyond one-off analyses and into a proactive, product-driven mindset. You will not only lead the team in building and deploying our first machine learning models but will also serve as a strategic partner to product teams, embedding data and ML into the product development lifecycle from the very beginning. You\u2019ll push forward the vision for how data science can create intelligent, reusable data products that unlock new capabilities and solve specific business problems, driving real outcomes for our teams, users and patients.

What you\u2019ll be doing

Execute the Data Strategy and Vision

  • Act as the lead for data science and ML within the "data as a product" framework.
  • Proactively partner with Product Managers to define data product needs for features and experiments.
  • Champion the design and architecture of advanced, intelligent data products, including our first ML models, that solve specific problems and unlock new product capabilities.

Drive ML Model Development and Production

  • Own the end-to-end lifecycle of our ML models, from ideation and experimentation to deployment and ongoing management.
  • Establish and champion MLOps best practices to ensure our models are robust, scalable, and reliable.
  • Architect and oversee the building of predictive and prescriptive models that inform product strategy and improve user experience.

Mentor, Empower, and Elevate the Team

  • Serve as the go-to technical expert for data science & machine learning, providing guidance and mentorship to other data scientists and analysts.
  • Elevate the data literacy of the wider organisation by coaching product and engineering teams to embrace data ownership and leverage data for decision making.
  • Foster a culture of collaboration, ensuring seamless partnership across all teams and acting as a joint owner of the quality, reliability, and security of our data products.
What we\u2019re looking for
  • Proven leadership experience in a data science role, with a track record of driving strategic initiatives and mentoring junior team members.
  • Demonstrable experience leading the end-to-end development, deployment, and maintenance of production-grade machine learning models.
  • Experience with MLOps principles and tools.
  • Advanced proficiency in Python, including deep experience with key machine learning libraries (e.g., Scikit-learn, TensorFlow, PyTorch).
  • Strong hands-on experience with complex SQL, preferably in an analytical environment like Snowflake.
  • Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to translate complex technical concepts into clear, actionable insights for both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Our Tech Stack
  • Data Warehouse: Snowflake
  • BI & Visualisation: Power BI
  • Languages: SQL, Python
  • Cloud Platform: Azure Services (Functions, Data Lake, Data Factory)
  • Event Tracking: Rudderstack, Mixpanel
  • Other: Git, CI/CD pipelines, modern data stack with an emphasis on reusability, data governance, and performance

How Many Machine Learning Tools Do You Need to Know to Get a Machine Learning Job?

Machine learning is one of the most exciting and rapidly growing areas of tech. But for job seekers it can also feel like a maze of tools, frameworks and platforms. One job advert wants TensorFlow and Keras. Another mentions PyTorch, scikit-learn and Spark. A third lists Mlflow, Docker, Kubernetes and more. With so many names out there, it’s easy to fall into the trap of thinking you must learn everything just to be competitive. Here’s the honest truth most machine learning hiring managers won’t say out loud: 👉 They don’t hire you because you know every tool. They hire you because you can solve real problems with the tools you know. Tools are important — no doubt — but context, judgement and outcomes matter far more. So how many machine learning tools do you actually need to know to get a job? For most job seekers, the real number is far smaller than you think — and more logically grouped. This guide breaks down exactly what employers expect, which tools are core, which are role-specific, and how to structure your learning for real career results.

What Hiring Managers Look for First in Machine Learning Job Applications (UK Guide)

Whether you’re applying for machine learning engineer, applied scientist, research scientist, ML Ops or data scientist roles, hiring managers scan applications quickly — often making decisions before they’ve read beyond the top third of your CV. In the competitive UK market, it’s not enough to list skills. You must send clear signals of relevance, delivery, impact, reasoning and readiness for production — and do it within the first few lines of your CV or portfolio. This guide walks you through exactly what hiring managers look for first in machine learning applications, how they evaluate CVs and portfolios, and what you can do to improve your chances of getting shortlisted at every stage — from your CV and LinkedIn profile to your cover letter and project portfolio.
