Our healthcare AI & Innovation team is responsible for developing and maintaining our AI systems. We are a friendly and supportive team of PhD data scientists and software developers who love to solve technical problems and have a passion for improving people’s lives.


We are currently conducting the UK's largest ever evaluation of AI in primary care in collaboration with the University of Manchester and the University of Cambridge, funded by the National Institute of Health Research (NIHR).


What You Will Do

We are looking for an enthusiastic PhD student with quantitative and programming experience to take part in a paid 3 or 6-month internship. You will receive experience across the entire machine learning lifecycle through developing and improving AI models, leveraging the latest advances in Large Language Models (LLMs), and contributing to making our machine learning engineering (MLOps) practices more robust. You can also expect to work on other aspects of data science such as data analysis and visualisation. By the end of the internship, you will acquire essential skills for data science and AI with experience of working on real-world problems.

What You Will Have

  • You will be a 2nd or 3rd year PhD student in a quantitative subject, or recently completed a PhD in a quantitative subject
  • Some knowledge of machine learning techniques
  • Python programming experience

Note: Only applicants currently enrolled in a PhD programme (or have completed a PhD) and have the full unsponsored right to work in the UK will be considered.
