We have an exciting opportunity for a Data Engineering Technical Lead to join the IT team at Yorkshire Water and be part of helping Yorkshire Water to provide the best service to our customers.

Buttershaw / Hybrid Working (once a month in the office Bradford)


Work type

Permanent. 37 hours per week, Monday–Friday.


Responsibilities

  • Influence data engineering strategy and improve end‑to‑end development lifecycle.
  • Evaluate and implement modern data tools and platforms.
  • Drive automation, performance, and cost‑efficiency in data systems.
  • Ensure compliance with data privacy and security standards.
  • Collaborate with data scientists, analysts, architects, and business leaders.
  • Translate business needs into technical solutions and data models.
  • Lead, mentor, and grow a high‑performing data engineering team.
  • Design robust, scalable data pipelines aligned with strategic goals.
  • Champion data quality, governance, and reusable standards.
  • Work with technology partners to enhance services, manage risk, and ensure value for money.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience delivering complex data pipelines using Azure Databricks, Azure Data Factory, and other cloud platforms.
  • Strong programming skills in Python, SQL, and cloud‑native tools such as APIM, Azure Functions, and Synapse.
  • Hands‑on experience with DBT for modular, testable SQL in a Lakehouse architecture.
  • Proficient in Power BI for building interactive dashboards and visualising insights.
  • Skilled in Databricks for collaborative data engineering, machine learning, and analytics.
  • Familiarity with the Medallion data design pattern.
  • Solid understanding of data modelling and experience leading delivery strategies.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills with a focus on data and code quality assurance.
