Office Attendance - Our roles are hybrid; however, you should be able to travel to our Reigate or Edinburgh office, 2 days per week for this position.

We're looking for a Data Engineer to join our Insurance Money and Services team.


As a Data Engineer, you'll build and maintain data flows and data acquisition processes to deliver well-structured, efficient, and performant data marts to drive business analysis and processes. Reporting to the Data Engineering Lead(s) for direction (in terms of priorities or technical support), you'll support them through the delivery of projects and work within deadlines, prompt escalation of risks or issues and ensuring that day to day activities are delivered within SLAs. You'll liaise with stakeholders at all levels of the organisation, delivering end to end data requests and ensuring single version of the truth across the organisation.


What you'll be doing

  • Data Collection and Analysis: Produce accurate reports for stakeholders by collecting data from a variety of standard sources and inputting it into standard formats. Identify and monitor associated Data & BI risks and report any business impact with recommended solutions to the Data Engineering Lead(s).
  • Application Development: Contribute to development of existing and new SAS based applications by analysing and identifying areas for modification and improvement to meet customer requirements.
  • Product/Service Development: Solve known problems and/or deliver defined outcomes by performing designated development/engineering activities using existing systems.
  • Technical Developments Recommendation: Working with the Data & BI team to develop and maintain a comprehensive data warehouse using SAS/SQL language to ensure all data clearly defined and consistently maintained throughout the organisation.
  • Data Governance: Develop and maintain data dictionaries covering factors and measures within data warehouses. Responsible for supporting all aspects of data such as Quality, Security, Management, Architecture, Availability and Performance.
  • Troubleshooting and Debugging: Provide fault isolation and resolution to limit and address issues promptly.
  • Project Management: Responsible for processing Data & BI requests for internal and external stakeholders in a timely manner whilst ensuring data accuracy and audits are not compromised. Liaising with internal stakeholders regularly to ensure assistance is given in understanding Data & BI for improving business performance or operations.

We need you to have

  • Ability to analyse and interpret data with good investigative and analytical skills and make recommendations.
  • Strong communication skills (both verbal and written) with non-technical internal colleagues.
  • In-depth knowledge of Microsoft Office (particularly Excel).
  • Proven organisation skills with the ability to work with tight deadlines.
  • Able to demonstrate sound attention to detail, ensuring any output is accurate before being passed onto the wider business.
  • Experience developing and maintaining strong working relationships.
  • Demonstrate a 'Can Do' attitude with a desire to thrive in a dynamic and fast paced environment.

And if you have any of these, even better

  • Some knowledge of SQL / SAS is preferred but not essential.
  • Sound experience and understanding of established procedures or systems.
  • Evidence of problem solving, investigative and analytical skills.
  • Evidence of learning technical skills.
  • Insurance or other financial services experience would be beneficial.
  • Experience on SAS VIYA, Jira, Fabric, GitHub is good to have.
  • STEM degree is preferred but not essential.
