Enjoy building experimental setups and capturing real-world data?

Looking to take ownership of your own test systems and play a key role in a collaborative, high-impact engineering environment?

Want to work in a role where data directly shapes product development and performance?

This opportunity could be the perfect fit.

Work at the Cutting Edge of Applied Engineering

Our client is a fast-growing technology company backed by venture investment. With a multi-disciplinary team of engineers and technical specialists, they are pushing boundaries in advanced component design, testing, and manufacturing.

They are currently seeking a talented and practically minded Data Engineer to support the design, development, and optimisation of experimental rigs and testing systems. This position involves developing bespoke data acquisition setups, integrating sensors and control systems, and collaborating across technical teams to deliver critical data insights.

This is a hands-on, high-responsibility role that bridges hardware and software.

Why This Role is Great

  • Work that matters. Your systems and insights will directly influence key technical decisions.
  • Practical variety. Combine coding, wiring, testing, and problem-solving every day.
  • Access to great tools. Use LabVIEW, DAQ systems, embedded devices, and data processing tools.
  • Autonomy with support. Take ownership of your area while collaborating with design and R&D engineers.
  • Growth built-in. Join a team that encourages learning and professional development in a scaling environment.

About You

You are likely a degree-qualified engineer with hands-on experience working on experimental systems. You enjoy solving real-world problems by combining hardware and software approaches.

You will be working with:

  • LabVIEW or similar tools to build and maintain data acquisition systems
  • NI DAQ hardware or equivalent to support real-time data capture and control
  • Sensors, wiring, and interfacing to physical testing environments
  • Python or another programming language for data analysis or post-processing
  • Version control systems such as Git and clean coding practices for system maintenance

You may come from an industrial background with 1 to 3 years of experience, or you may have developed relevant skills during a research-based PhD with strong experimental or performance testing components.

Skills Wish List

If you have experience in the following, that would be a bonus:

  • Full back-end and front-end LabVIEW development
  • Embedded electronics such as Arduino or STM32 platforms
  • Designing data dashboards or user interfaces for test systems
  • Basic electrical or circuit knowledge including sensor integration
  • System-level testing and performance evaluation of mechanical or thermal components

We encourage candidates with transferable skills to apply. If you meet some but not all of the criteria, we still want to hear from you.

The Role Setup

  • Location: Based in Oxfordshire with regular visits to local testing facilities
  • Contract: Full-time, permanent
  • Package: Competitive salary and equity options
  • Team: Reporting to a Testing Lead and working closely with design and experimental engineering teams
  • Tech stack: LabVIEW, NI DAQ, Python, embedded systems, version control

Inclusion Statement

We and our client are committed to building a diverse, inclusive, and equitable workplace. Applications are welcomed from all backgrounds and levels of experience. If you require any reasonable adjustments to the application or interview process, please let us know.

Machine Learning Recruitment Trends 2025 (UK): What Job Seekers Need To Know About Today’s Hiring Process

Summary: UK machine learning hiring has shifted from title‑led CV screens to capability‑driven assessments that emphasise shipped ML/LLM features, robust evaluation, observability, safety/governance, cost control and measurable business impact. This guide explains what’s changed, what to expect in interviews & how to prepare—especially for ML engineers, applied scientists, LLM application engineers, ML platform/MLOps engineers and AI product managers. Who this is for: ML engineers, applied ML/LLM engineers, LLM/retrieval engineers, ML platform/MLOps/SRE, data scientists transitioning to production ML, AI product managers & tech‑lead candidates targeting roles in the UK.

Why Machine Learning Careers in the UK Are Becoming More Multidisciplinary

Machine learning (ML) has moved from research labs into mainstream UK businesses. From healthcare diagnostics to fraud detection, autonomous vehicles to recommendation engines, ML underpins critical services and consumer experiences. But the skillset required of today’s machine learning professionals is no longer purely technical. Employers increasingly seek multidisciplinary expertise: not only coding, algorithms & statistics, but also knowledge of law, ethics, psychology, linguistics & design. This article explores why UK machine learning careers are becoming more multidisciplinary, how these fields intersect with ML roles, and what both job-seekers & employers need to understand to succeed in a rapidly changing landscape.

Machine Learning Team Structures Explained: Who Does What in a Modern Machine Learning Department

Machine learning is now central to many advanced data-driven products and services across the UK. Whether you work in finance, healthcare, retail, autonomous vehicles, recommendation systems, robotics, or consumer applications, there’s a need for dedicated machine learning teams that can deliver models into production, maintain them, keep them secure, efficient, fair, and aligned with business objectives. If you’re hiring for or applying to ML roles via MachineLearningJobs.co.uk, this article will help you understand what roles are typically present in a mature machine learning department, how they collaborate through project lifecycles, what skills and qualifications UK employers look for, what the career paths and salaries are, current trends and challenges, and how to build an effective ML team.
