We are on the lookout for a talented Data Engineer to join a high performing fund in London, responsible for building and maintaining a state-of-the-art data platform for portfolio managers and quants. This role is crucial in developing the core components that will support our team for years to come.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and enhance a modern data platform and data-intensive applications, including ingestion, ETL, data quality, storage, and APIs.
  • Collaborate with quantitative engineers and researchers to meet business requirements.
  • Work towards a balance of feasibility, stability, scalability, and time-to-market for solutions
  • Work within a global team to deliver scalable, stable, and timely solutions.

What We're Looking For:

  • Over 5 years of experience in data engineering or a similar role.
  • Strong expertise in SQL and relational databases.
  • Proficiency in Python and data-manipulation libraries/frameworks (e.g., Pandas, Polars, Dask, Vaex, PySpark).
  • Excellent debugging skills and problem-solving abilities.
  • Experience with financial instruments/software in areas such as research, risk management, portfolio management, etc.
  • Knowledge of distributed data components (e.g., Kafka, Redis).
  • Experience in building data platforms/ETLs, including batch and streaming, and data lake/warehouse/lakehouse patterns.
  • Familiarity with column-oriented data storage and serialisation formats (e.g., Parquet/Arrow).
  • Skills in code optimisation and performance tuning.

Beneficial to have:

  • Familiarity with tools like Prometheus, Grafana, Sentry for monitoring and tracing.
  • Familiarity with ClickHouse, Snowflake, or KDB.
