Develop and optimise SQL queries, stored procedures, and database scripts to deliver high-performance data processing.
Implement automated data flows that connect operational systems with analytics and business intelligence (BI) tools.
Re-engineer manual or ad hoc data processes into scalable, repeatable workflows.
Ensure data quality, integrity, and consistency through rigorous testing and validation.
Provide proactive and reactive support for database and ETL-related issues, including user guidance where needed.
Build structured, accessible datasets that enable clear and reliable business intelligence reporting.
Document database structures, ETL processes, and data pipelines to support ongoing development and maintenance.
Work with APIs and programming languages (such as Python) to extend ETL and integration capabilities.
Support the development team with advice on database design, indexing, and query optimisation.
Monitor and tune database performance, applying updates and version upgrades where required.

You'll bring
Proven experience as a Data Engineer or in a similar technical data role.
A strong background in SQL and Python, with experience of ETL tools and modern data integration techniques.
Familiarity with SSIS, SSMS, and reporting tools such as Power BI or equivalent platforms.
Experience working with cloud and on-premise databases, including solutions like Google Cloud Platform, Snowflake, Databricks, or Amazon Redshift.
A meticulous attention to detail and a logical, structured approach to work.
The ability to prioritise effectively and manage multiple tasks under time pressure.
Strong communication skills and a collaborative, solutions-focused mindset.
Experience in Retail or Distribution environments would be an advantage.
Flexibility to occasionally travel or work outside standard hours when required.
This role is based at our stunning offices in Swindon, Wiltshire, with home remote working part of the week. You'll bring a willingness to travel and occasionally work evenings, weekends, or on-call as part of a rotational schedule.
